Hey guys,

I'm wanting to know what each wire does in an RJ45 network cable. And does it always do the same job? i.e. if you use it as a straight through cable or a crossover.

I'd also like to know the proper name for those RJ45 extension boxes :p Like you'll have 2 boxes cabled together, then could have a computer pluged into one, and a router pluged into the other... you know what kind'a thing I mean?

Thanks ;P

This gives some indication of what pairs are assigned to which pins, and this says which pairs are used.

No. If it's crossover then some of the assignments are reversed at one end.

No?
Sounds vaguely like a switch or a hub, but it's hardly an "RJ45 extension box"...

Thanks for the links mate,

This is kind'a like the RJ45 box ..

Clips to the wall, so it's like... an extension realy. Rather than having loose wire's all over the place you just fit these boxes to the wall were there needed.

I can't use that box I have though, it's only got 3 wire connectors on the back, I'd need an 8 wire one for the RJ45's.
