Just grabbed myself an Aorus 15P XC and the information on Gigabytes site and retail sites mention Advanced Optimus and the benefits of being able to switch between the two GPU's without restarting.
This seems to work, but i have the following issues;
1. Even with the application/game set to only use the Dedicated GPU, i'm getting much less performance than if I just disable optimus with the control center on the laptop (which requires a restart) Is there supposed to be a dip in performance now that there is this new Advanced Optimus switch for the display?
2. The documentation on Advanced Optimus somewhat makes it sound like the switch between iGPU and dGPU can be done without restarting the laptop, which if they mean how you can set an application to use a certain gpu doesn't really sound any different to regular Optimus? I have to restart the laptop to actually disable the iGPU and get the performance back.
3. This laptop doesn't use a GSYNC panel, but it seems Advanced optimus allows for GSYNC and optimus, which I can't test on this laptop obviously. I use an external monitor at home and thats GSYNC but only the dGPU drives external displays anyway. Is the GSYNC and Optimus the main thing of Advanced optimus? If so, seems an odd thing to advertise on a laptop that doesn't have a GSYNC display built in.
So - Does this laptop not support Advanced Optimus as advertised, or is it working as it should and a drop in performance is expected?
- Tried contacting Gigabyte eSupport and currently 1 week without a reply.
