Ello, got a little question here for ya all

I have an Advent 4211, and so recomended the newer 4214 to a mate, thinking it would be just as good. Now its fine, but seems VERY hot. The underneath of it is a lot hotter, and when running windows update coretemp reported that this thing was hitting over 100c, which is a lot more than my 4211 (think it hits 90 every now and then) but this one idles at 87c.

Its the underneath though, its not as good as mine. One thing to note is I can't hear the fan, so was wondering if there is a way to force it to speed up (anyone know of a bios update).

I have speedfan on here, but never used it before, it reports that core0 and core1 are a toasty 62c, any help setting that up to speed up the fan??

Sorry to bump, but after setting up the 2nd one for my other cousin I am worried (yes there are very luckly!!)

Laptop A (first one) has speedfan reporting this:
HDD0: 45
TEMP1: 56
CORE0: 55
CORE1: 55

Laptop B feels a lot cooler underneath and can actually here the fan kick in every now and then.
HDD: 38
TEMP1: 41
CORE0:45
CORE1: 45

Same lapatop. a lot cooler. Seems maybe the fan on laptop A is stuck on quiet mode. Any ideas Do ya reckon the men in purple suits will accept its faulty if I took both in to show them?

Go in, have a word with the guy who seems to be the most knowledgeable on the desk, and at the very least they should try and get it repaired, as it sounds like something isn't right with the fan control, or the fan itself.

am i right thinking the 4214 is based on an ECS g10 like the 4213 ? whereas your 4211 is based on an msi wind

anyway on the 4213 atleast, the case is the heatsink

the queit mode ( pressing FN and F11) on them doesnt activate/deactivate the fan it just activates/deactivates speedstep,i think the fan is just temperature based but you should hear it if its on

check with cpu-z or something that both the 2 your comparing temps of are running at the same speed.

my 4213s case gets pretty damn hot but its never really been hot enough to be a problem

You are indeed correct I beleive on most accounts, dunno bout the first bit but the 4211 is def a msn wind clone, and quiet mode just does speedstep. Anyahoot, uncle took laptop back to the purple men and they swapped it over, so get to see tomorrow evening if it has the same problem!!

And this was a problem, it was dam flipping hot, suprised it didnt cut out from overheating personally...
