You guys helped me out last year when I built my Gigabyte AMD machine, so thought someone might help me out with a laptop problem I have.......
Machines history is a bit of a mystery really......The laptop is badged as Advent and the model number appears to be 7065....machine was given to me by a local author to edit one of his books, when received the battery in the machine was flat and won't charge so I have removed it and just plugged in its psu, machine comes up and loads xp but I cannot get any keyboard functions, mouse functions work o.k. I believe the machine has had very little use and has stood for quite a while, I do not have any driver disks so I'm a little unsure where to go from here....can anyone advise? Will the laptop operate properly with out the battery just using it's psu?

Thanks

its fine without the battery, it could just be the keyboard connector needs reseating. Theres usually little tabs along the top or bottom edge, carefully press them back with a flat screwriver and pop the keyboard up move to the next tab till the keyboard can be pulled up, then check the ribbon cable, its usually a small pop out connector, or flip up type, carefully flip it up or slight it out, pull the cable out, pop it back in then close the connector.

Great that was it, the ribbon cable had worked its way out of the connector....i'd stripped the machine down and still couldn't get at the keyboard........thanks for the info, so simple when you know how:D
