Advent 7211 display problem

Hello all mates just come round with his sons Advent 7211 laptop which for some reason the display only just shows whats on the screen ie it looks like the brightness has been turned right down

have gone over all the settings plus the FN key to turn it backup but can't find anything to change it, i'm thinking the display maybe fudged as connected my lcd to the laptop and screen shows up ok so could the back light have blown

yep the inverter or lcd has failed, should be under warranty though?

just over a year old so out of warranty "just his luck"

just made a few phone calls to a few laptop repair shops in london and they want around £85 + vat
