Everone loves an advent calendar, whether it's a traditional one with a little Father Christmas hanging on a string that you move from one pocket to another, or one with a string to pull that makes Father Christmas dance, or one with awful little chocolates that you'd shun every other month of the year, etc etc.

For the last few years I've had a cheese advent calendar but as per last year, I've not been able to find one so I’ve done this again.

The purists may argue that it's not technically an advent calendar and I suppose you could be right but each one does has 24 goodies, they're numbered but just not behind a door so I'm saying it's fair

With only a few days to go until December, what have you got?

You could at least have randomised the number order!

We aren't having any this year but my son has a Kevin the carrot special from Aldi, the excitement of him shouting 'look I have a carrot' around the shop probably made him look a little more deprived of fun than he actually is.

I use an Advent candle. You burn it off 1 day at a time until you reach 24 and each segment takes around 20-30 minutes to burn off. Have had a candle since around age 20 and I'm now 45.

As a kid, I had the 'plain' calendar that had a picture behind each door. The chocolate ones did exist but they were a luxury. Fairly normal now though. I even heard that you can now get a gin calendar with a different miniature behind each door. That must cost a bomb, like £100!

It's funny you say that. I did think it after I'd written on them but I've made up for it.

Although I couldn't get a cheese calendar, I did buy two of the Ilchester little cheese multipacks for three quid each. There's 12 in a pack for a total of 24 cheeses.

I've numbered them and they're in the fridge.

We've got one of those as well, same thing, we had them when I was a kid and there was always an argument about who was going to light it and who was going to blow it out. We still do it and on Christmas Eve, we have to remember to light it a bit earlier than normal because we can't go to bed until it's burned out.

Last year we've got a fairly chunky pillar candle advent candle, last year it was this.

Lol.

Weren't you tempted to mix up the numbers a bit to make it more of a challenge?

Ah seen the response above. Maybe you could take them all off, then stick them up again.

I do like a scampi flavoured fry, but they make your fingers stink.
