anyone else really liking the abundance of adventure games on the pc atm? :D

so many to get..ridiculously cheap as well!

Penumbra: Black Plague
Darkness Within: In pursuit of Loath Nolder
Barrow Hill

and havent even started Dreamfall and Lost Crown yet!

Tons of new adventure games on the adventure sites i check up on.

I quite like the detective, mystery type of adventure logical puzzles etc. Any other recommendations?

Ive got dreamfall installed but I havent played it, been meaning to put it on all night but aint got round to it

Don't play Darkness Within, it's terrible.
I'd recommend Jack Keane though :) Nowhere near as dark but a great point n clicker much like Monkey Island.

i dont plan on getting Darkness within until the sequel comes out as i heard this was an issue with its ending. (ie loads unanswered)

apart from that is there a lot wrong with it?

(also like the look of the "Runaway" series)

I just found it incredibly dull, the puzzle solutions made no sense most of the time and it felt very dated. 10 years ago it might have been ok, but it was so tedious and generic. :( The controls were a tad odd too iirc.
I suppose it's not the worst game ever, I just wouldn't recommend it at all unless maybe you'd played every other adventure game first :D

I havent played adventure games for YEARS - I was a massive fan of the text only ones back in the day (zx speccy). If I were to buy ONE adventure game right now which should it be?

What was the last one you played?

There are some adventures games that MUST be experienced

e.g. Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island, Gabriel Knight, Grim Fandango.

or something more recent?

Penumbra is awesome. Being stuck in the artic in an infected research facility is just the best scenario ever. Reminds me of The Thing, which happens to be my favorite movie of all time too!

I miss Clarence :(.

If theres one game you have to have for the Adv genre. Its The longest journey (not dreamfall). After that the 2nd best is Syberia 1 and 2. Damn awesome games no adv collector would be without either.

I used to be a huge fan of all the Lucasfilm/arts games, but generally find modern adventures to be fairly boring and not have that magic.
I don't know whether this is due to the games themselves, or me just getting older and liking different games.
That being said, I tried out that Lost Crown game on the recommendation of a thread on here a few months back, and despite some ropey animation and some very dodgy voice-acting, I thought it was great. Very impressive for a one man effort.

Think the last one I played was blader runner and i did love that game but all that came after it has never seemed that good though if i got the time in betwwen football manager, spore and bf2 i'd like to try Beyond Good and Evil. I keep hearing good things about it I think pc zone keep championing it.

Dreamfall is about my favourite game - Im replaying it now after a year or two break.
It's true there's some cool new adventure games about but I just wish they didn't all have to be horror games. That said, I'm really looking forward to vampyre story, if it ever comes out.

The Penny Arcade game is fantastic, and only a tenner. It's not a traditional adventure game, but it is point and click - and damn funny :)
