Hi there.

I was just looking through a list of a games due for release in 2009, here, http://adrianwerner.wordpress.com/games-of-2009/ , and some of the screenshots of the adventure games look, believe it or not, pretty cool to me!?

I pretty much only play first person shooters, such as Insurgency, Red Orchestra etc and would never touch a game like world of warcraft. However, while looking at some of the games on that website such as Treasure Island, it reminded me of when I used to have Guybrush Threepwood:The Curse of Monkey Island (2D) and Guybrush Threepwood:Escape from Monkey Island (3D) when I was younger, and how enjoyable they were!!

I loved the storylines, the challenges I was faced and having to figure stuff out and the general nature of the games I suppose. I was younger at the time, but wouldn't mind giving a decent adventure game a blast.

So basically I was hoping some of you might be able to point me in the right direction? Bearing in mind those Guybrush Threepwood games were realeased in 1999 & 2000 I can imagine i've probably missed some good ones :p

Cheers, Borgia

Ceville is mint.

Google gameboomers for a site dedicated to adv games. Has loads of reviers by adv gamers not fps reviewers so ull know they are good reviews.

I usually hate point and click games but the Broken Sword's are awesome, however I still maintain that The Shadows of Templars can't be completed without a walkthrough. I'm yet to meet someone that has.

deffinitly check out the gabriel knight series - best graphic adventures in my book bar monkey island - the first game had graphics like the first 2 monkey island games - the 2nd used real actors and was my fav of the 3 and the 3rd used a 3d engine that still looks decent today. they all run on vista and xp 32 bit - for gk1 you might need a slow down programe for a timed puzzle which doesnt like fast processors - and i checked gk2 on vista 64 recently and it didn't work.

id also recomend the tex murphy series if you like the idea of real actors rather than cartoon style graphics - they are a pain to run in windows xp+ but are worth it when you get em to run. under a killing moon, the pandora directive and overseer - also check out the x files game - the 1 released in 1998 - that was the last fmv adventure game to be released using real actors.

also indiana jones and the fate of atlantis the adventure game - same graphic style as first 2 monkey islands - great game.

id recomend the game allready mentioned too day of the tentacle, first 2 monkey islands and sam and max hit the road are among the best

Beneath a Steel Sky
Grim Fandango
Day of the Tentacle (as mentioned already) its probably my fav adventure game, great funny story.
The Dig

as well as other good uns mentioned

Longest Journey

Bladerunner
Lure of the temptress
Operation Stealth
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Legend of Kyrandia

Call of Cthulha (kindoff 1st person horror adventure)

I'm a fairly big fan of adventure games and here are a few not mentioned so far that are wortha look:

Syberia 1&2
Dreamfall (Absolutely Brilliant but try to play 'The Longest Journey' first)
Vamprye Story (A bit obtuse and silly in places but still good fun)

Oh and if you do play through the broken sword games (highly recommended) then make sure to check out the fan made broken sword 2.5 game.

Hey thanks for all the replies.

Um, I downloaded the demo of Ceville on steam. Its exactly how I remembered Guybrush Threepwood to be. Trouble is, I'm older now and it seemed pretty childish? As in the story. Also, I can't believe how dated the graphics are for a new game?!

Was kind of after somthing which has maybe abit more depth to it, and which is maybe targeted at a more adult audience. Somthing set in modern times, and possibly with a believable storyline?

That Dreamfall looks ok, but I'm really not into the fantasy genre.

Fairplay though, from the amount of titles you've all named, about 95% of them aren't even from this decade. And this decade is nearly over!!!

Maybe I'm asking too much, Lol.

Right now I'm playing Perry Rhodan (which was recommended to me by someone on these forums). It's a fairly recent sci-fi adventure based on the Perry Rhodan books published in Germany in the 60s. I had never really played point-and-click adventure style games before either, but I'm enjoying it so far, give it a go :)

Thanks. Quite like the look of that actually.

Sorry Montegue, was writing my last post when you must have posted that. Some of those look pretty good too:)

Ok then you want "moment of silence". Its a bit old but the gfx are good and the story and settings are modern.

Also Secret Files: Tunguska and the new one which is out soon. And maybe still life, overclocked, art of murder.

The problem I find with adventure games is the quality of the dialogue and voice acting which can makes or break it for me. I downloaded Perry Rhodan from D2D over the weekend and I am struggling to get into it as the characters are not very engaging. Secret Files: Tunguska is a good game apart from the whinny valley girl voice for the lead.

The games that shine for regarding dialogue and voice work are The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Syberia 1&2 and the Broken Sword games. Because of this I have not finished so many games.
