Adventure Games?

Never knew a sequel was due out! I thought that it was always going to be left on a cliff-hanger. Although I think I remember reading on a forum it could not of been any of the main characters for various reasons.

Broken sword series 1 + 2 (even more so number 1), are very good. Such a shame they went the '3d' route after 2. The game lost so much of it's soul.

And of course, no adventure list is complete without the obvious Lucas Arts classics. Especially Monkey Island 2 + Indiana Jones Fate Of Atlantis.

If you're a newcomer to adventure games then your in for a treat really. There are not that many games of of the genre being released now really and even less-so of any quality. But, there was a time when they were so you have a lot of catching up to do. :)

Also, you should give 'Planescape: Torment' a try. It is an RPG but im sure you'd like it as the story and exploration is fantastic.

Hey thanks for all the replies.

Um, I downloaded the demo of Ceville on steam. Its exactly how I remembered Guybrush Threepwood to be. Trouble is, I'm older now and it seemed pretty childish? As in the story. Also, I can't believe how dated the graphics are for a new game?!

Was kind of after somthing which has maybe abit more depth to it, and which is maybe targeted at a more adult audience. Somthing set in modern times, and possibly with a believable storyline?

That Dreamfall looks ok, but I'm really not into the fantasy genre.

Fairplay though, from the amount of titles you've all named, about 95% of them aren't even from this decade. And this decade is nearly over!!!

Maybe I'm asking too much, Lol.

most of the really good adventure games were released in 1990's imo - if you like more serious stuff get a gabriel knight or tex murphy game - - if you really like big 3d graphics you may be hard pressed finding 1 u enjoy - i havent played a really good adventure game since 1998 really dreamfall isnt really an adventure game - plays more like an rpg but its pretty bad at that also so i wouldn't really recomend that. I'd say get hold of 1 of the older games mentioned here and try and look past the dated gfx

There could be 1000's of upcoming adventure games to be released but it makes no difference if the quality is not there. Look at this thread for example, i'd say a good 85%+ of the suggestions are pre-2000.

I don't think main-stream games mags not covering the genre makes any difference either. A good game will be found-out and the word spread either way, the trouble is that it's a rare occurrence for a decent adventure game to be released today.

So why'd you say

Theres plenty being released - they just dont get the same headlines that a big-budget FPS does. Ive no doubt theres some that are quality e.g. Lost Crown newish adventure is pretty impressive (though i hated the ending). From the adventure game sites i check out there is an abundance of quality adventure titles so no idea where your negativity of the genre is coming from. Have you tried some new adventure titles ? i'll recommend these

Lost Crown: A ghost-hunting Adventure
Immortals of Terra
Overclocked: A History of Violence
The Penumbra Collection (3)

I think to adventure game fans - its good times :D

Quite a new one is A Vampyre Story made by the guys who did Monkey Island.

Might be worth a look it's classic point and click as well.
