advertinception

Yep, also is it just me or do adverts now play at times in the video just before something important is going to be said or happen? I've only noticed this in the last few weeks.

i must admit mid-video ads are annoying, although i have noticed on some channels they seem to be reasonably well timed, i wonder if the content creator is allowed to designate a time that's appropriate for an ad.

of course still less annoying than old school tv adverts.

ITV are the masters of this. They will put an ad break about 10 frames after the end of a scene so you see the next scene flash up and the the bloody 118 men turn up.

They went to adverts with 2 minutes to go in an FA cup match once after 118 minutes in extra time. Match came back on and Everton were celebrating scoring a goal.

Yeah, it must be this as I doubt they have an algorithm for must-see moments yet.

indeed, it's only certain channels that i've noticed it on, so i guess it's just randomly assigned if there isn't a specified break.

although the amount of ads on youtube really beggars beleif how they can make money, or indeed waste advertising time by advertising their services to people who are blatantly using their services already.

it'd be like my car playing bmw ad's every time i start it- it's too late BMW i've already bought your product :D

Its probably a kind of brand reinforcement, we all use YouTube subconsciously as the go to video site. I imagine they want to fully expand the brand into the living room territory. It's triggered this thread for a start...we are talking about YouTube....it's worked.

There are possibly older people who see embedded youtube videos from other sites but never go to the site directly....think about that.

I pay for YouTube Red now, but I stopped seeing adverts on YouTube around the same time that I installed ublock Origin. :)
