Has anyone does this, worth while, costs?

So I phoned them up about prices and they pushed me into an interview for which i didn't ask for. So i get some glaswegian guy(rep i assume/hope) phone me up to arrange an interview about 2 weeks later, so i just have to assume he is the real deal. So i now realise i am being vetted for an add which is fair enough but he now wants to meet me on motorway. At first i said a busy well know street in glasgow but now it seems a motorway in the middle of now where is better. Should i be worried??

You have to meet people to advertise in yell? I thought you just bought advertising space...didn't think there would be any physical contact.

sounds fishy. don't go as there is no need, if he is from yell then he'll only get you to buy more stuff you don't want.

would be interested to hear how much you pay in the end if you do go ahead. i was quoted approx £800 for just 2 categories in 1 town for 1 year. seems like a lot but then i think it's where companies go to get what we do if not from recommendations

do not go. there is no need to meet like that.

it doesnt mean it is dodgy, he might just be lazy and not want to travel all the way to you to meet you (which he probably should)

but dont go

either let him come to you or do everything over the phone

why should you have to go out of your way when you want to do business with a company.. they should be going out their way to get you on board

I advertised my business on Yell for many years. The rep only ever came to my office and when she moved on the new one came round to introduce herself.

Your situation sounds very odd.

just a lazy sales bod, everybody is very conspiratorial these past few days.

Tell him to come to you - he is trying to make the sale and you are the customer.

I've advertised online with Yell and with their 118 service - complete waste of money. Arranged it over the phone so not sure why they need to meet you in person for this

I found a local directory better plus top ranking on Google and word of mouth, although depends what you do a bit.

Nobody uses phone books anymore

Don't they. I do when I'm at home.. On what marketing exercises did you come up with this conclusion.

You'd be surprised. People do still use the book because it's just handy and easy to grab a copy when you need it. Cost me around £1,500 to advertise in yellow pages with a white spread knockout plus yell.com with a web link respectively.

Still very much worth the money.

At OP, if you make the all decisions for your company why should you be worried?

We advertise in Yell and had a guy over to talk about options and stuff. Think it's fairly standard..

And as to whether it's worthwhile or not, it depends on the type of business.

EDIT - On a motorway? Weird.

I think it depends on the business. I advertised in Yellow Pages for years (home IT help) and the amount of business it attracted slowly started to wane and I ended up cancelling. Used to cost me about £800 per year for a 100x100mm advert, normal background, black ink.

The rep used to come round to mine though, never had to meet him elsewhere
