Just a quick S.O.S. to anyone who has taken out advertising to try and bring in more work / customers.
I'm self employed and my company installs aerials / satellites etc. Usually we get plently of work via the subcontracter route, so we would have no need to advertise.
Recently though we have been getting insufficient work via that route so are
thinking about advertising in some way.
Eventually we would almost certainly be OK through recommendations / word of mouth, but until that point need to be pro-active about bringing in more work.
I've looked into advertising in my local paper, but they want £162.50+VAT per week (yes week) for a smallish (absolutely tiny) advert which seems crazy.
Then of course the dreaded Yellow Pages. I don't like the idea but
perhaps taking out a large-ish advert and emphasising the quality of
our work might make us stand out a bit. There is a new directory area
just been created here so the next adverts would be half normal
price.....but would still be about £2000+ VAT for the year. (£4000+VAT
next year).
Any ideas what does and doesn't generally work? I've had advice from
all corners..........most of it recommending the one thing someone else has said is a waste of money etc. You get the picture.
People tell me leaflets dropped through letterboxes are the way
forward too but i'm not so sure........
