Started using Spotify a few months ago, and I've really got into it. When I was first using it, ads were once every 10 or even 20 songs. But starting from yesterday, they are now every five songs, which is really starting to hack me off.

It's now worse than a radio station. I understand that they have to make money, but battering people into submission isn't the way to go about things.

Anyone else getting a lot more adverts than before? Or do they just send a lot more to their heavy users?

I've been using it for about 5 days and not heard a single advert.

Does anyone know how the advertising system works? Is it based on song popularity? I listen to mainly classic rock which I don't suppose is as popular as some other stuff.

Wouldn't be surprised if they're having a hard time getting subscriptions. The abrupt jump from free to £10/month is pretty jarring.

Yeah I agree, I bet most people don't spend £10 a month on music they physicly own. It needs to be a couple of quid as most people won't miss this and just think what the heck.

Also i have yet to hear an advert

I use it almost all the time, at work, at home, parties.. however they only take mastercard so I can't go pro :(

If they somehow come up with a way to go mobile I would sign up for a credit card just for them :)

I think they are working on an iPhone version.

I'm really liking the free version at the moment, can't believe I didn't discover it sooner. If anything I'd like to hear an advert just for the sake of it. :D

For the amount of stuff they have it's still worth it. Adverts don't seem to be dependent on song numbers played, but time spent listening i.e. one advert roughly every twenty mins.

I have no problems with the adverts. I'm getting the service for free, I have no complaints.

And Symbian and Android versions. They've already demoed the Android version.

Spotify was always meant to play adverts every five songs. The problem they had when they started was that they simply didn't have enough advertisers to do it. Now the service is more popular, they have enough advertisers to fill all of the slots.

It's a free service. You get what you pay for.
