Morning all :-)

Just after some advice on a 3D setup, primarily for 3D movies but would also like to try a few games to see how they look

In some respects I'm probably a few years too late for this lol but the wife cannot watch a movie in 3D because of eye problems so rarely do I watch a 3D film and I've always fancied trying a game or two with 3D as well

Having just upgraded to the following as my old hardware was nearly three years old

Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM

Asus Maximus VII Ranger Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard

TeamGroup Vulcan RED 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit

My GFx card is a Sapphire Vapor-X although I'm not sure on the model, but I know the GFx card plays a big part in doing 3D

If anyone could spare a few mins to give me a heads up on what would be required I'd be very grateful :-)

I picked up a 3d Vision 2 kit and honestly, ive had nothing but problems. The games work fine but when i try to watch movies its near impossible, no matter what program i try they all play side by side or under and over. a few times if got a quarter through a movie and my nividia crashed. I gave up entirely and kept my 3d movies on my tv and only use the pc kit for games. That said, some games look great, others just look poor at best. How i was explained was that the gpu is in a very simplified way creating 2 of the same frames at once. so if you play 60fps, you would in effect have 30fps per eye. if you play games and are hitting high frames rates then your 3d games, in theory, should be fine. This explanation could be wrong but its seemed to work for me. my fps half'd-ish but still held around 40-60, more than enough to enjoy 3d IMO

Ok I had a look at the 3D vision 2 seems that's the only way I can find of doing it lol unless there are monitors with the kit built in like the Asus Rog gaming laptops of a couple of years ago?

Is my graphics card ok for this purpose?

Do you need a specific type of monitor as well?

I can't comment on your graphics card as I'm a nvidia user but i know you do need a 3d ready monitor. ocuk has a specific category for 3d monitors if you check the store

I have the 3d vision 2 too. worked alright, looking back I wish I saved the money though. Was great but the novelty soon wore off.

My biggest gripe was what it did to shadows. Most games I tried looked great but the shadows and shading would appear to jump out rather than sit with the rest of the scene ruining the immersion effect and caused a bit of eye strain.
