to be fair, all will do the job. The Asus N has a bluray combo drive, the other Asus has a more powerful CPU but very limited gaming / 3D capabilities, the HP has a faster 7,200rpm drive, it has switchable graphics, like the Asus (optimus enabled). They all share 768p displays (no surprise).

The Asus N seems to be the better all round, but it's also the most expensive. Looks really well finished.

I've seen a DV6 in the shop and it felt cheap. Maybe you could have a look around yourself. The N53 has a numeric keypad, so keys could be quite small.

EDIT : hmmm batteries not massive, but 47WHrs should give about 2-3 hours and a bit battery life with light work. Just about enough for watching a movie on batteries.

to be honest the laptop will mainly be used in the living room so using whilst charging won't be a problem. I'm leaning more towards the HP at the moment as it seems to have the best features for what it'll be used for, with a decent price.

It's worth going to a retail store to check them out, see the quality (screen, keyboard, trackpad). Samsung does decent laptops as well. And of course Sony. They tend to be more expensive, but have higher quality in general.
