Hi All,

New to tge group.

I'd really appreciate some help as I feel I'm wasting time looking at Gaming PC's and having no idea, it's like a mine field of info.

I used to be in to my PC's around 20 years ago and up to date with hardware but find now that things have developed massively.

I can't afford to buy new even the self build option so I'm looking at tge 2nd hand market by using either ebay or Facebook Marketplace. Would anyone be able to spare a short amount of time to help point me in the right direction of a set up which I'd really appreciate.

I'm looking at using it for games such as GTA online, X Plane Sim and even doing some photo editing for work purposes however I am on a tight budget for now due to work issues.

Again it would be really appreciated.

Thanks

What resolution are you planning to use?
Also what is your budget?
Do you just need the pc or need peripherals as well?

What PC or laptop do you have now (if anything)? That would help us get an idea what's going to be a decent upgrade.

Hi matey,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I'll need a full setup buy happy to buy the extras separately to the tower.
I was thinking around 400 with it being a 2nd hand setup.
Resolution I've no idea to be honest, something decent but obviously appreciate I'm on a budget and buying 2nd hand.

What's your opinion on this spec...
RTX Geforce 2060 graphics card
2 x 8- 16GB Hyper X Ram
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor with wraith stealth cooler .
A32OM -S2H Motherboard
SX8 SSD Pro m.2 - 1TB SSD
Harddrive 500gb

To give you a starting point, here is the cheapest new self-build I could do:

Intel Core i3-12100F 3.30GHz (Alder Lake) Socket LGA1700 Processor - Retail - £109.99
Asus Prime H610M-K D4 - Intel H610 DDR4 Micro ATX Motherboard - £91.99
Lexar Hades 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C18 3600MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit - £39.95

Asus Radeon RX 6500 XT Dual OC 4GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £139.99

WD Blue SN570 1TB SSD NVME M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 Solid State Drive (WDS100T3B0C) - £58.99

Kolink Inspire Series K2 ARGB Micro-ATX Case - Black Window - £37.99
be quiet! System Power 9 600W 80 Plus Bronze Power Supply **OEM NO BOX** - £50.00

Grand Total: £540.89 (includes delivery charge)

Ideally, I wouldn't want to have much lower performance than that, because this (mainly the 6500 XT) is already starting to struggle in newer AAA games.

Some decently performing CPUs: Ryzen 5 1600/2600/3600; i5-8600K/i5-9600K; i5-10400.
Some decently performing cards: RX 470/480/570/580; RX 5500; GTX 1060 6GB/1650 Super/1660; RTX 2060.

Thanks for the reply and the detailed above info, massively appreciated.
Does that spec I sent sound decent over all.

What's your opinion on this

Ryzen 3600 CPU with AMD stock cooler

Sapphire Nitro Radeon RX580 8GB GPU

Gigabyte B450M DS3H Motherboard

Viper 16gb DDR3 RAM - 2x8GB 1600MZ

Gamemax Rampage 750w PSU - Semi modular and 80 Plus Bronze Rating

240GB M.2 SSD - Fresh install of Windows 10 on it

480GB SSD - For secondary storage

Aero Cool Hive v2 Midtower with tempered glass and 3 stock fans, 2 at the front and 1 at the rear. Plus the case has space to install additional fans at the top of the case.

Still searching for help if anyone could spare me some time, it would be appreciated. Maybe chat via DM if easier. May possibly increase my budget for the right set up.
Thanks

Viper 16gb DDR3 RAM - 2x8GB 1600MZ

This cant be right as ryzen doesnt run on ddr3.

You coud possibly upgrade to a ryzen 5*** as its a b450 board (with a bios flash).

rx580 is a good 1080p card

If you get a newer gpu you will most likely need to upgrade the psu as well as its cheap.

Its a good base depending upon the price.

It's just sold on ebay so continuing the search. I don't mind increasing my budget slightly if need be. Have you got any time spare to have a look on ebay and help me out, completely understand if not. I'm based in Nottm so been looking at units with P&P or within a reasonable travel distance.
Many Thanks

we can't look for you but can give you pointers to be looking in the correct direction

for £400
you should be looking at a ryzen 2600/3600 (6 core) - ideally 3600, or an intel 10100 (4 core) or intel 8400/9400 (6 core)
defnitely 16 gb ram
Radeon 580 8GB or GTX 1060 6GB
would want a 500gb ssd or thereabouts, definitely wouldn't settle for anything less...the builds with a token 250gb-ish ssd are probably built by resellers rather than someone who has used that computer before
1tb hard drive

Some bits to consider here, would go used for a ryzen 5 3600 "preferably boxed with cooler" for around £70 and a GTX 1070 / ti for £130. Should be a solid pc just over £400.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £210.90 (includes delivery: £7.99)

Hi.

That's really helpful, thank you.
Looks like I'm pretty much spot on the with units I've been searching for. Obviously the more I'm looking the more knowledge I'm becoming on what's on offer.
I'm so out of date with Pc set ups, I was in the loop 20+ years ago when playing Lemmings lol

Appreciate you taking the time to put that detailed list together. I've been reading and watching vids on custom builds to get an idea even the guides pinned on the forum page.
Thanks again
