Hey,

Im fairly out of date with current technology,
but I'm looking to build myself a new computer.

Generally used for:
Gaming - not too interested in playing the latest games on 100fps on ultra.
Occasional video and photo editing
Generally have lots of programs open, including recording software and VMs sometimes.
Watching videos - (movies/TV series) through headphones.

Single monitor
Budget isn't too much of an issue.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,291.63
(includes shipping: £14.70)

I already have a SSD and a HDD
128GB - 2 TB
No fans, thats ok?
No disk drive

Just wondering on everyone's opinions,
don't think I have queued anything incompatible (as far as my knowledge goes)

I'm open to suggestions on everything.

Thanks in advance

Given that you're going to have VMs running, you might want to consider 32 GB RAM. And take the opportunity to get yourself a ~500 GB SSD.

You'll enjoy having a second monitor and find yourself more productive.

The GTX 980 only has 4 GB VRAM, which will soon not be enough. Either downgrade to a 970 or equivalent in the expectation of upgrading at the end of this year or get a 6 GB 980 Ti (or equivalent).

If your photo editing you'll want an IPS display for better colour . For gaming i'd slim down i7-6600K, Nvidia GTX 970, and get a better mobo Asus Maximus VIII Extreme .

Thanks for your help,

I wont be doing enough photo or video editing to matter,
maybe like once a month.

I will probably look at getting a gtx980ti.

Maybe changing the case to a fractal r5.

Might consider getting more RAM later on

this bit 'Generally have lots of programs open, including recording software and VMs sometimes.' is making me think you should maybe consider x99 with 6+ cores (+hyperthreading) and 32GB ram....

The cases you've mentioned do come with fans as does the aio cpu cooler. Whether they're too loud for you is subjective though.
