Hi,

I am going to have a first go at updating/building my own system using a few parts from my 5 year old pre built machine. Before this I have only ever upgraded the following components which I plan to carry over:

- MSI GTX570 Twin Frozr II
- 1TB 7200rpm Samsung HD

I have a budget of around £500-600 and perusing these forums have been thinking about this sort of build:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £179.99
1 x Samsung 256GB SSD 830 Notebook/Apple Series SATA 6Gb/s KIT with Norton Ghost - (MZ-7PC256N/EU) £149.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99
1 x TeamGroup Elite 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38GM1600HC11DC01) £35.99
1 x Xigmatek Asgard Pro Gaming Case - Black £32.99
1 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £29.99
Total : £523.03 (includes shipping : £11.75).

Any advice would be very welcome. I aim to have my OS and main programs/games on the SSD and other data on the existing HD. I have an external 1TB usb3 HD for backup. I would be keen to have a USB3 port on the front of the machine due to my desk arrangement. Would I need some sort of internal extension cable for this MB to attach it to the front USB port?

I am also a bit stumped as to whether I need a new PSU? I have a generic 1000W psu which I could carry over but it is 5 years old. This used to power a HD4870X2 but I am guessing that 1000W may be a bit OTT for my current gpu?

Also would the case I am looking at need any additional cooling fans other than what come with it?

Many thanks in advance.

Looks good tbh.

The case should have usb 3.0 connections ready if it says they are on it.

You need about 500 / 550w tbh for a single gpu solution

I'd change the RAM, the latency on the teamgroup is not great. Swap it for one of these:
