I'm looking for a lil advice. I'm interested in purchasing this board and coupling it with the phenom II X2 555 BE. I am however unsure of compatibility.

The asus website states that it does support the cpu but only from bios 0506 (earliest bios is 0303 i believe) and pcb revision it states any.

Does this mean that the board will post with the cpu installed (on any pcb) and then i must flash the bios to gain full support for the CPU? Or will i have to try and find a cheaper supported cpu for the bios that is installed on the board, update bios and then fit the 555be cpu?

Any thoughts or if anyone has this board and has had cpu's post that are not officially supported on the boards supplied bios....i'd love to hear from you. Thanks in advance

BIOS 506 dates from 24/09/09, so if you are getting the board new, it will almost certainly offer support out of the box.
In case it didn't, either of the things you mention might apply. It might boot but not be fully supported, then you flash it. OR you might have to use a cheapo cpu to flash it then sell it afterwards.
With Asus motherboards especially, do not flash it in windows, the process sometimes goes wrong, do it through the BIOS utility instead.

I'm pretty certain you'll be fine out of the box though.

Thanks for the reply guys. The retailers i've asked can't confirm compatibility although they were keen to charge to update the bios for me (cheeky monkeys!).

I'm reasonably confident that it would boot with the cpu but was hoping to hear from peeps who own the mobo and hear their experiences with various cpu's or the 555BE

I posted this question on the asus forum weeks ago and haven't heard Jack. This is now my new home from home....I posted this question in the general hardware section and have received replies there too!

Thank you to all who have replied, i'm still keen to hear from owners of this board, even if it is just to brag about how many cores they have unlocked or how far they have oc'd their CPU ;p

Oh p.s thank you Quixote I intended to download the latest firmware and update thru the bios with EZflash but thank you for the heads up. The board has a crash free bios but you are right if a job needs doing do it properly in the first place!
