I want to know what would be best to do before I upgrade from AMD to Intel.

I understand I will have to do a fresh OS install so is there anything else I should know? E.g can I move game folders to a different hard drive and reinstall them? Steam games and such.

Also someone mentioned I would be much better of using RAID 0 on my 2x 120gb Seagate Barrucada Drives, how do I do this?

What software should I use to backup Windows 7, or should I just drag & drop backup?

Spec as follows:

  • MAIN COMPONENTS
  • i5 4670k (about to purchase)
  • Gigabyte Z87X-D3H (about to purchase)
  • HD 7950 (Twin Frozr 3) CrossFire in future (about to purchase)
  • Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz 8GB Blue RAM
  • OCZ 500W ModXStream PSU

    COOLING
  • Hyper 212 Evo
  • Aerocool Strike X One Case
  • 3-5 120mm Fans
  • Crap Fan Controller

    HARD DRIVES
  • Samsung 830 128GB SSD
  • 3TB Seagate Expansion External HD
  • 2x Various Seagate Barracuda Hard Drives

    PERIPHERALS
  • Philips Fidelio X1 Headphones
  • Creative Z OEM Sound Card

Steam is pretty easy to move around tbh. Make sure it's on a HDD so when you install Windows you can just plonk it on there or keep the data. On your new windows, double click Steam and it should fix itself for your new Windows and keep your games.

Not sure what you can do but you can just copy all your important files to your hdd before reinstalling. I don't usually have much important stuff on the C drive since I put it all on a hard drive.

Have you ordered the RAM and PSU?

I'd get an XFX 850w to enable you to crossfire in the future & get lower profile RAM so it doesn't block large coolers in the future.

Yep. When you hit Install on a game in Steam that you already had installed it should find the existing files and use them, just make sure you install to the same path.

Alright thanks,

What's the best way to set it to locate for files and install to a seperate hard drive?

Also gonna post some RAID questions in mobo sector.

I'll go with a corsair 750x modular or whatever, around 70 i think and and CF will likely use most 550w anyway with OC. real power consumption is really low.

RAM & PSU I just re-used.
