Can you buy arcade machines that you can hook up to an xbox or ps4 with the sticks and buttons?..... Or can you buy cartridges of the games?

Am wanting to buy a machine I remember so well in the 90's and be able to play the latest fighting games

Not sure if those sought of machines are possible to buy with 1080p screen

You can buy an X Arcade stick. They are based in the states, but ship internationally or they occasionally come up on auction sites. They have adapters available for consoles and are currently working on one for the PS4/Xbone.

I have the dual stick model that connects to my PC and it's very authentic in terms of an arcade set up. Obviously not a full cabinet, but if you want the flexibility to use it in modern systems, then it's a decent compromise.

You can use something like a Ultimarc to use an xbox 360 more details here : http://www.ultimarc.com/xbox360.html

I dont know of any adaptor to do it to a PS4, also it will depend on the arcade machine you get, most are Jamma connectors, you will need to avoid some dedicated cabs unless you are happy to rip it all out and rewire everything.

The cab in the image is based off a Vewlix which I think is Jamma with a 720P panel.

Older cabinets would be 15khz and would only be suitable for old 90s style games.

There's a lot of equipment out there to connect PC's to arcade machines but I havent seen anything for PS4's, the controls are easy enough to do by soldering wires onto the PCB of a PS4 controller and using quick connects on the other end for the buttons, and probably the easiest way is to replace a cabinets monitor with a PC monitor so you could use HDMI
