Just boughy a 6870 as a christmass treat for myself to replace my aging 260gtx:D
As for the question when changing the drivers over is it as simple as uninstalling the old nvidia drivers in the conrol panel rebooting and then installing the adi drivwes or do i meed to run a driver cleaner?????

THnx MEERRY CHRISTMAAS :D:D:D

Thats what I do when changing cards, went from crossfire 5850 to Nvidia 480 GTX, have got no problems :)

Just uninstall the nvidia driver, although if using W7, strictly speaking you don't need to uninstall the nvidia driver (if you have two pci-e slots you could put the 260 in there and use the 260 to run physX with the 6870).
Personally, I wouldn't use any driver cleaner as I have in the past and I needed to reinstall windows.

If you are using Windows 7, ignore the advice on using driver sweeper, as it can do more harm than good.

1. Uninstall Nvidia drivers
2. Shutdown PC then remove the Nvidia card
3. Install the AMD/ATI card
4. Boot up into Window normally
5. Install the driver for new AMD/ATI card
6. Reboot

This is what I did when I upgrade from a 9800GTX+ 512MB to a MSI 5850 Twin FrozeR 2 days ago. No problem whatsoever.

Yep on windows 7, have only changed over to the red side once before back with a 2900pro and that didnt end well.
Seems to me the best choice is a standard uninstall/reinstall thank for the help, just gotta wait a few days for the delivery, cant wait.

Dont uninstall or use drivercleaner/sweeper to remove physx. Because its a requirement for certain games even if you have an ati card. Just a heads up because ive had serious problems trying to get it to install itself after removing it the wrong way. ;)

Safest bet - go to device manager and change current display driver to standard VGA (i.e. default microsoft driver). Uninstall Nvidia drivers via control panel and then shut down. Remove Nvidia card, pop in the ATI card and power back up. Once in windows download the latest ATI drivers and install them and then reboot once more. Job done.

Hi just seen this thread, Im going from my Card in sig to a 5850. Im on windows XP.

Do I remove nvidia driver, turn off, install new card, turn on, and run ati driverS?

Tagan 480w I've removed sound card and extra drives. The gfx card fans are spinning fast but it just beeps.

I have two 6pin plugs in the back of card

Tried using the 6 pin adapters just now instead of the proper psu ones. Same situation :(

Same as me going from 260GTX to 5850. No problem and no need to over complicate things using programs like nukedrivers or whatever :)
