hi everyone

just need to clarify what are the difference between the motherboards im currently building my first pc build. im buying the intel i525k cpu. socket 1155.

there are two version 1155 p67 and 1155 z68

i'm overclocking my i5 so which mombo is best and what are the difference in both mombo's

and wat does gen 3 stand for is that to do with pci- ex 16 3.0.

which board is the best for overclocking im going to use water cooling.

still researching which case to get. im thinking of getting the Asus P8Z68-V PRO GEN3 Intel Z68 or the Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Intel Z68

do u have suggestion other then the two i mentioned.

look forward to your reply's :)

The Z68 boards offer in most cases the use on the integral GPU'S on the CPU and overclock the K series CPU at the same time.

SSD Caching and Lucid Virtu, have a search around Google.

Gen 3 is were the motherboard can take advantage of PCI-E 3 when Ivy Bridge comes out.

Some good boards below:

Z68 supports the on-die GPU and most boards have video output, it also has a few extra features like RJC has mentioned (SSD Caching and Lucid Virtu).

Your Welcome, your thread will be ok here :)

The board below supports TRI-SLI & Crossfire and can do Ivy Bridge when launched and at a reasonable price:

I believe Quad SLI/CF means running two dual-GPU cards in SLI/CF - like the GTX 590 or HD 6990. For this, most P67 and Z68 boards will work - albeit only at x8/x8 per lane. If x8 is going to be a big bottleneck then the only real alternative is to go for an X79 board and LGA2011 CPU as suggested by RJC.

I wondering if the op was after dual GPU cards or 4 single cards, when the op mentioned £250 I took that for the motherboard only

sorry i guys i most likely going to use either dual gpu or two separate gpu i was just trying to get a mombo tht caters quad for the future upgrade but i forgot tht u need the x79 mombo which is no no for me. i think the most i will use is dual gpu or tri.

If you are happy with a dual GPU setup - then a nice quality £120 Z68 board like this (which also supports PCIE Gen3) will do that perfectly.

However, if you want to be able to run three cards then you need to double that price to the Asrock Z68 which RJC linked to above. Realistically, most people don't go down the triple card route unless they have really deep pockets - as triple card scaling isn't that great, power requirements are massive, cooling is a problem and it is usually better to just buy a newer card (or two) than rely on three older ones.

yeh i think dual gpu is ideal with decent cards, just thinking of which mobo to get i have also got another thread about my water cooling case to get you see its my first ever build and im learning. i just want to get the best i can get with my budget because i don't work.

so far Ive learn t things about componments , compartabilty, water cooling, modding. its just tht each mobo offers different feature more or less and different build quality's. been reading so many threads frm different forums people have had problems with certain mobo.

in different forums people are different fans of different mobos, from your experience and knowledge which z68mobo shall i go for. lot of fans for asrock and gigabyte but wat about Asus mobo e.g P8Z68-V PRO GEN3 Intel Z68.
