So if I do that I should be able to open the DVD drive?

Because it's all still dead - will have another go later :-)

To open a drive, theres a small pin hole on the front. stick something in this hole and the tray will release.

Thanks - I meant from a power point of view - no life in drive and no fans despite paperclip - guess it means PSU is dead?

looks that way then, so you have just pulled the 24pin connector out with the drives still connected to the PSU and then used the paper clip trick and it dont work?

Yep - left everything attached to PSU but nothing happens - looks like that PSU replacement I was considering is needed sooner than expected ;-)

Suppose you better tell me the budget.

Have you also checked the fuse etc?

And just to double check its the PSU, remove it from the PC, attach a fan to one of the molex with an adapter and try the paper clip trick again.

Light on PSU is on so power from mains is getting there - PSU just not handing any power out :-p

Looking around £70 so have seen the Lepa 750 modular recommended.

Any others to consider?

Another quick thank you - PSU arrived yesterday along with a couple of new fans and the Asus Xonar sound card.

Everything working fine (and cooler) again .... and tidier now with the modular PSU
