A friend wants to upgrade his GPU from an 8800GT to a 5870, and asked me if it would be okay taking the rest of his comp into consideration. He has plenty juice in his Corsair 620W PSU, but I'm wondering about the PCI-E slot on his P35 mobo?
My understanding is that the 5870 will operate fine on PCI-E 1.1, losing a small percentage of the performance available on PCI-E 2.0. Just wanted to check if my understanding is correct before giving him the go-ahead to buy?
