advice for a newbie.

If you like RPG then the GingasVR Overhaul for Fallout4 VR is very good, takes a while to setup but you've got 100hrs gameplay right there.

The Room VR and 7th Guest VR are good fun, Red Matter is decent too especially if you want easy puzzles and a bit more fps gameplay.

I've not played the Alien and Metro games yet but they are supposed to be good.

Don't forget simulations Elite, No Mans Sky, StarWars Squadrons, DCS, MSFS... DCS is a good start because you get a base plane for free and time limited free access to other modules at certain times so you can try it out see if you like sitting in a 3d cockpit before jumping in with HOTAS equipment etc...

Skyrim might be ok. Perhaps wait for a sale and try it out. I seem to remember it was fine on my 2070 Super in my PC

Base Skyrim, with a few essential mods - Higgs VR, Plank VR, Sky UI, Skyrim Script Extender, and maybe a few others would probably work and offer a much better VR experience. I wouldn't try one of the huge modlists as they tend to be quite resource hungry.

most laptops seriously lack the grunt to drive PCVR unfortunately, if you can achieve equivalence of say an RTX3080 dGPU you'll be ok with compromises

cant see it, do you have to choose a role?

might be a bit much if they arent to in to modding and new to VR?

i tried playing a pc game using virtual desktop. i was using an Xbox control pad but the Quest kept tracking my hands and interfering with the controls. is there a way to disable the Quest controllers when playing a non vr game?

Disable hand tracking, on my pro I put the controllers on charge and they don't show could you take batteries out.
