Basically I'm donating an old PC to a skint student friend, and need some advice to keep the cost down. I built my new rig last year and have fell out of the loop since really, I have a perfectly good Q6600, Freezer 7 Pro, 4GB Ram, mobo and GTX660 graphics card plus DVD Drive + 500GB Hard drive and a 22" monitor. It's not going to be playing Crysis very well but will be 10x better than his ancient wrecked laptop for Photoshop & CAD stuff and won't really be used for gaming at all besides a couple of old games.
All I need is a case & a power supply. I've ran a few calculators for power usage and am getting roughly 390 watts for the system, so I'll be going for a power supply somewhere in the 450 - 550 range. All I'm really asking is what is the best case + power supply for a reasonable price. I've always liked the Antec 300 but I would prefer not to really pay £50 for a case. Preferably something along those lines and fairly inconspicuous, maybe the Zalman Z3 for £35? I have a Z9 myself and can't fault it. I was also thinking along the lines of the the Cosair Modular CX 500W for the power supply, it's on special just now for just over £40 and modular would be great although not essential at all. I could go for a £20 Swift/OCUK 500W but I really just don't trust cheap PSU's like that at all.
Thanks.
Edit: I've had a thought, I've fancied a Modular PSU in my own build for a while now and this seems as good a time as any to get one. II might buy myself a good PSU (maybe Corsair 600W Modular for £50) and give him the XFX 550 in my PC at the moment.
