Hello, I'm new to the forum. I'm sorry of this has been asked elsewhere I did look but couldn't see anything.
I'm looking at upgrading my full system over the next few months as it's getting on. I'm totally lost when it comes to monitors. I'd like to find something that is colour accurate but also a faster refresh rate. I'm currently using a dell U2417h which I have no issue with it but I'd like something faster for gaming. Is there such a thing as a good all rounder that isn't a small fortune.
Cheers Spence

What is your definition of a small fortune? How big do you want to go and/or from what size are you upgrading?

For photos you want IPS for sure. As a fan of ultrawides, you have the Acer Nitro XV340CK but that might set you back close to 500 quid. The Iiyama GB3461 is another option but it requires serious calibration as it's not very color accurate afaik

You'll definitely want an ips with excellent srgb coverage. Tftcentral or rtings are the best place to check colour accuracy tests.

Beyond that, it really depends what resolution you game at. 1440p is a good starting point - easy to drive. 27" is a decent size for photo editing. Don't get a curved or ultra wide screen.

£500 is kind of what I'd say was top end of my budget. I have looked ultra wide, I'm not sure on over all size I'd go up to. How hard is it to actually calibrate
Just have two monitors: one for gaming and one for photo editing.
I had thought this but if I had two monitors side by side. I'd like to be able to game on them together ultra wide.

Size wise I'm not sure I'm currently using 24" which feels huge as my previous was only a terrible 17" I'd liked the idea of a ultra wide. 27" is probably what I'd end up with. I'd like to atleast get 1440p think 4k would be out of my budget. Why do you suggest not getting a ultra wide ?

Ultra wide is horrible for photo editing - too much colour variatiance across the panel. Your photos have a 6:4 aspect ratio, so you end up with a lot of useless space at the sides of the screen.

After what's been said, two really is the better option.
Are you looking for 1440p 60Hz or would you prefer higher? The Dell u2719d is great for photo editing, but limited to 60Hz.
I think The ideal would be able to game on something like 1440p. then if I was going get something for editing maybe 4K, I doubt it would really be in my budget though. My plan is to totally upgrade my whole set up this next few months but I'm worried that my budget will get out of hand.

What about the 27GN950? It's not exactly cheap, but it'll be cheaper than buying 2 screens and would work well for both uses.

If you want a cheap 4k for photo editing, I recommend the Benq ew3270u. Just don't use it for anything involving hdr...

I'll have a look into those suggestions. Does hdr just look terrible on the benq?
That Samsung panel looks impressive could be exactly what I'm after. Possible get something like that for now then add something else.

The Benq is terrible for hdr. It just looks washed out and plasticy - hdr films are pretty much unwatchable. Good for photo editing though!

I've ad a look t the benq I'm not sure on the 32" I have been looking at a lg 27ul850. Maybe get something like this for now. I don't play as many fps these days. I could probably get away with gaming on it for now. Then possibly add something like a lg27gn750-b to game on in the fiuture.

For photo editing 4K is ideal, but you’ll have to settle for 60hz at your budget. The LG 27GN950 is ideal for your usage but out of budget and difficult to buy.

Looks like an ideal monitor really. Might be one to look at if I can find the budget.
I had the 27GN950 on pre-order but couldn't wait any longer. Ended up going with a Predator x27p instead - stunning, but it's not exactly wallet friendly...
You aren't joking about not being wallet friendly. budget is my big problem with planning on a full system build. Might have to keep an eye out for the 27GN950 though it looks like it might be the best of both worlds

Or you use that space to fill with your tools and sliders................
