Hi all,

After having my current PC for 4 years and being a gamer I need an update.

My graphics card is 7970 (VFX) as I bought this last month so I'll be keeping this but my current pc blatantly can't handle the heat.
I have samsung 256 Pro so no need to replace this

So what I'm looking at:

OcUK Tech Labs - BitFenix Shinobi XL - 750 EX360 Watercooled Case (INTEL option)

"Rock Creek Gold Rush" Intel i7 4770K @ 4.4GHz Overclocked Haswell Gaming PC Bundle (16GB 2133mhz option)

If I've missed anything please let me know or if you want to recommend something that is better that would be great as I can afford quite a bit more if needed and worth it.

Should I go with bundles or more individually?
should i get 2400mhz memory instead of 2133, is there much difference?

Thanks

arghhh typed out a reply and and hit post and during that time it logged me out and hitting 'back' all my text was gone :( Here's a shorter version of what I wrote haha

Thanks for the replies

I am happy to build my own PC the only issue I have is that I have no experience of watercooling so have no idea what I'm doing in that respect. Probably look to watercool the GPU in the future but at the moment I'll probably leave that alone.

In January 2010 from overclockers I bought the "Titan Goliath" Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz @
> 3.40GHz Quad Core DDR3 System and since then have only upgraded to an SSD and 7970 GPU

I'm definitely open to xfire upgrade option in the future.

Not really thought about a budget, but looking at what I had in the opening post that was about 1k but if the upgrade was really worth it I'd go up to 1.5k maybe even a bit more. The cheaper I put this together though the more I can justify other things like new monitor, headset, mouse, keyboard, etc but the most important part is getting the right PC so am willing to go that bit further if needed.

Cheers

The 920 is still a good chip and would be even better with a good 4.2Ghz OC.

The case will allow for good air flow and the AIO with keep your chip cool, even with a decent OC. A 750W Psu to allow for xfire in the future. The mobo has an excellent onboard audio chip. So all this will leave you with more than enough funds for a monitor, kb, mouse, headset, speakers, etc,.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £249.95
1 x Corsair Carbide 540 High Airflow ATX Cube Case - Black (CC-9011030-WW) £129.95
1 x Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z87 Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £119.99
1 x Seasonic G series 750w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £109.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H100i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060009-WW) £99.95
1 x Avexir Venom Series 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17200C9 2133MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (AVD3U21330904G-2CIG) - Green Light £79.99
1 x Corsair SP120 Quiet Series High Pressure Low Noise - Dual Pack (CO-9050006-WW) £25.99
Total : £836.33 (includes shipping : £17.10).

Thanks guys for taking the time to spec up for me, looking at the two I think I prefer the first one but really appreciate the alternative.

I'm thinking of getting 16GB of memory as I'm wanting to dabble in video editing and so a bit more would be preferable. Looking at 2400hz what would be the best to go for for the first rig? I think I'd prefer 2x8gb instead of 4x4gb but it's not essential.

Is the M5 version of the sniper motherboard worth the extra? wouldn't rule out a pci ssd or a video capture card in the future.

so i ordered this without really thinking about the fans. where would you put the Corsair SP120 Quiet Series High Pressure Low Noise fans in this?

yeah i thought so just wanted to check haha. cheers

about to start putting it together in a bit, a lot more parts than the last pc I built, it's scared me a bit.

At the moment my new system is unplayable for me.

In game I get horrible screen lag when I move the mouse. Despite my fps remaining high the framerate appears sluggish and movement jittery. This does not happen if I'm moving with keyboard or if I get my control pad out. Obviously I don't want to be playing battlefield with a controller.

I've tried 6 different mice and it happens with all

any suggestions?

Sorry to hear you are having problems.
Does this happen with all games?
Are you using the top 2 ports next to the PS/2 port?
Are you using just the windows drivers or the drivers that come with the mouse, depending on which mice you are using.
Have you tried adjusting mouse sensitivity in the game(s).
Have you tried different drivers for your 7970?
Let us know what you have tried, in order to fix this problem, may help us find a resolution.

all games I use a mouse with but battlefield and far cry are by far the worst.

I've tried all usb ports and even pulled out my old ps2 mouse but I get the same problem.

I've tried the windows drivers and razers drivers

the lower I set the sensitivity the more it improves but it's still noticable and I'm not used to playing that low.

I've tried the driver it comes up with on their website and have also tried their beta driver.

so no ones been able to find a solution in all avenues I've taken (even RMA'd) motherboard.
Believe it or not the drivers for gigabyte make it worse than how it runs before i install them.

can only think the sniper doesnt like something, so going to buy another motherboard, considering the parts I have what does everyone suggest?

Does anyone know any companies that I could pay to problem solve this? I've tried everything I can think off and asked loads of people how to fix but no one knows.

This has been my worst purchase ever :(
