Hi all, ive been out of the the game for sometime, i presently have a q6600 and a gt640 video card with 6gb of ram, im looking at small upgrade, but find all the reviews confusing as hell.

Im opting for amd as i cannot afford intel prices, was going to get an fx-8350 but this is where im at.

amd fx-6300
8gb ddr3 not sure about speed and what dual channel is, so any advice here what to go would be great.
need a psu but not sure how big the wattage needs to be.
another thing is the motherboard, so many chip sets i don't know what to go for.

im sticking with my gt640 for now as i dont play games much and the newest game i own is battlefield 4.

so im needing a cpu, memory, motherboard and psu.

any advice or links would be great.

thanks in advance.

Hi,

Do you need a case or have one? what is it?

Need a copy of Windows? if you have it is it 32 or 64bit?

Are all your drives SATA?

You will need a better GFX card for BF4.

I'm actually wondering if you shouldn't get an SSD now along with a GFX card upgrade.

Then do CPU/Board/RAM later.

Its odd you say you dont play games much (is that because of the poor GFX card do you think?) but say your latest game is BF4 which is a modern game.

The reason for the upgrade is due to my lad, he's having my old parts, there still running fine but he got an old pentium 4 3ghz machine, so he's getting an upgrade from it and ive been toying with the idea of building a pc for some time. Just want to get the platform on which to build on, an ssd would be nice and they've come down heaps in price. gfx card wise do need something newer for sure, would a r270 or r280 cut the mustard as the r290 are a little pricey for my tight yorkshire budget lol, in regards to bf4, ive had the game ages and don't go on much at all.

An R9 280 will be great for gaming at 1080P, it is significantly better than a 270/270X to warrant the extra cost.

Hi all, just about to hit the button and buy everything, ive played about with my numbers and managed to find around £130 for a video card upgrade, my present card is a gt640 2gb.

So ordering the following:
Amd FX6300 Black Edition
Avevir Core red DDR3 8gb 1600mhz
Gigabyte 970A-DS3P motherboard
cooler master hyper 212 evo cooler
850w psu

Was looking at the gtx750ti 2gb, so any advice on the video card would help.

Why an 850W PSU? GTX 750Ti's can't run in SLI anyway, and you'd only need like 500W to power two of them comfy, if it were possible, which it's not.

A good 550W unit won't be stressed by a 280, for example. It will run in the optimal 50-75% range (and only when on load which won't be all the time).

That will free up some cash to get a better card for BF4 than the 750Ti. Unless you were planning on a cheap 850W unit which wouldn't be a good idea at all.

A 750Ti (if you end up getting one anyway) only pulls 60 watts. A good 350W unit would power that rig comfortably. A 400W would provide a little more headroom given it's an AMD CPU which can pull a bit more than equivalent Intel's, especially if you overclock.

If you went for a 290, which seems out of reach anyway, you could make an argument for a 650W.

Hope this helps.

Keep looking at other stuff and trying to sqeeze a little more money for the new pc,

Amd FX6300 black edition
Avevir core red ddr3 1600 8gb
Gigabyte 970a-ds3p board
Superflower 550W golden green hx psu
cooler master hyper 212 evo cooler
sata dvd drive
msi r9 280 gaming 3gb video card

total power consumption is around 451w on the cooler master calculator.

Looking at ordering in the next few days so if anyone can see any issues with the parts let me know.

cheers everyone for your input and advise.
