Hey guys.

Currently my PC is built for purely gaming.

(Maybe a little streaming and video editing in the future)

My Rig

Motherboard: MSI Z77A-GD55

CPU: i5 3570K @ 4.2Ghz

GPU: Geforce 670 GTX

RAM: 8GB Corsair 1600MHZ

Power supply: 550W HALE82

Hardrive: 1TB something something

I have around 1000 pounds to spend as a budget on upgrades and at first I was going to go and rip everything out.

Instead I thought I would ask sensible people on the best choices for gaming performance and future proofing. :P

I would imagine most people would say just upgrade the GPU as nothing else can benefit but I thought I would ask.

Thanks!

Upgrading to Haswell will not benefit you, you'll see no improvement. I would do something like this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 WindForce 3x OC Rev2.0 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (GV-N780OC-3GD) £399.95
1 x Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE250BW) £149.99
1 x SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 650W Fully Modular "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £109.99
Total : £669.53 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Alternatively, get a 750-850w PSU, SSD and a 2nd hand 670 to run in SLi. What monitor do you have? Fancy a 120/144hz if you have the cash?

Maybe buy another 8gb RAM in the future when you do video editing, with gaming you won't see much/any improvement between 8gb and 16gb RAM. As snips said, no point in upgrading the CPU either, Haswell <-> Ivy Bridge are almost as good as each other. Maybe get 2x GTX 780's or again, as snips said another 670 to run in SLI and maybe water-cool if you wanted to (not a good person to ask about watercooling but as I understand it could be under your budget.)

Hey!

Thanks for the reply!

Isn't true though that some games such as ARMA 3 and BF4 can use all of the threads on the i7?

I'm not 100% sure about that but yeah, I believe that's the case (for BF4 at least) - however I don't think there's a massive FPS difference at this point in time.

Hm, okay.

Well I think I'll like mostly into a GPU and SSD. I'll do some research if I need a new power supply. The thought of cable management all over is scary *_*

Thanks :)
