hi

currently i have a acer x3200 4050e pc. i am solely using it for watching and streaming movies. now it has an amd x2 processor, and a geforce 8200. now i am going to upgrade the ram to 4gb, add an ssd and i would like to add a graphics card. what graphics card would you recommend so i can run 1080p and 5.1/7.1 surround sound without a problem. also i am going to change the case so i can get one that makes it look more like a htpc. as for the power supply can that be changed and to which one?

thanks

Is that £100 for the GFX card?

Many cards have HDMI output so you can also get a sound signal out of it via a surround amp and then pass through to a TV/monitor.

Yes as I never trust a no name PSU that is used in these cheaper systems.

£100 gets a GTX750ti that sips very little power and some models dont even need an extra cable plugged into them and draw all the power they need from the motherboard slot.

Ok cheers for the info, what htpc case would you recommend for my pc? And also what power supply will be compatible with my system?

Thanks

Need to now what motherboard you have.

If it has an custom connectors or strange size that doesn't adhere to the ATX/mATX spec etc.

OP I don't think you need a 750ti just for media consumption, it's a bit overkill. I'd be looking at something like this:

It's a low profile card too, so will fit that tiny case of yours. You'll need to change the metal plate on the card with a half height one - Being a "low profile" card I'd assume one is included in the box.
