Hey guys just wondering if you could help me with a bit of a work / pay querie

I've been at my place now for about 5 months on a graduate scheme giving me £1200 cash no tax every month for a 9-5er

Im pretty valuable to the company from what i bring and replacing me for less of a price would be fairly hard but not impossible for them to consider

anyway...

The placement is over and they said theyd give me £17500 a year but that works out after tax and student loan £100 less than what im currently on.

With tax and ni calculated theyd need to give me £21k for me to be able to get the same amount (£1200) after tax

Should I go in with that and see what they say or is that cheeky in this climate?

Dont want to mess myself up at xmas!
thx

nope its a graduate scheme paid by a goverment funding company so its tax exempt,

I know its wrong working in "after tax" prices but why did they say theyd give me a payrise after my placement if they knew i was currently getting 300 in pocket a week?

smuck!

but thats assuming the 1458 doesnt get taxed which would make that unfair to measure as its still a actual cash in my pocket £90 drop between the 2

no its £1200, tax cant be put on the graduate scheme im on its totally tax exempt and seperate from the tax year as it doesnt get declaired.

if you were still on £1200 you would start getting taxed after you had earned £6k, no?

btw i live in cumbria and used to live in singapore

the zoo is the best thing on the island
sentosa is a decent day out

the city life around the quay is great

if you want culture shock get the bus over to malaysia and youll see a lot more

How many hours a week are you putting in? £17.5k is well over £7.50 p.h. on a 40hr week

based it after tax and on a 9.30 - 6

but the hours are actually more flexible and a lot longer but its all prorata hence just working on a average 9-5

its at a average company, quite a few problems but id like to change them, i wont stay here in the area for more than a year i doubt, trying to save to go traveling then ill move to the city like london, leeds or elsewhere!

my mate works at ITV and got 22k a year doing a easier job than mine straight out of uni a few years ago if thats to be used to help base

and when i was 18 i was on more wage than this in a gap year

the only reason it bothers me is that i need to have cash after living or there is no point doing it as it'll be catch 22 as i wont be able to save up anything

my equiv skills ect in a city would get me a minimum of £22 with the same living costs, thats also my kinda problem

the job is editor, cameraman, dop, equipment tech, course teacher, ect... its not just a paper pushing or unskilled job, i can save them £2k alone with a website right out the bat, I kinda feel like Id earn them a pretty penny in 12months
