advice from current/ex uni students

Leave a note, I recently left a note for my housemates:

Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
Please Clean the Grill
Or I'll Stab you in the Face

It seemed to work.

In my first year halls, we all shared shopping and stuff anyway, so food-theiving wasn't an issue.

But they used to put some of the nicer stuff & beer in the vegetable drawer at the bottom, which I never ever used. :(

its cowardly because you should ask people in person, its more direct.
Then ask them in person? It isn't cowardly in the slightest, I think its far more tactful than going round appearing to make a mountain out of a molehill, which it will look like. Just place a note on your milk in future saying 'hands off you theif!'.

Drop the prank idea.

One of the guys kept nabbing my ketchup and as I love my spicy food I had a tub of dorset naga paste lying around which is the hottest chilli in the world so I dropped a bit of that into the sauce and you should have heard him scream :D, though as I like my food hot its still perfectly usable for me

i actually did write a note out saying "whoever is helping themselves to my food and milk...don't", but then i thought to myself, i shouldn't have to write notes i should be taking names

Confront them either way, but milk can easily be re-bought as with other food products. My housemates frequently borrow my food and I borrow theirs. The golden rule is that you always leave a reasonable amount on food left, you should never use up someones food. Its incredibly rude.

Of course you should seek 'justice' (in the form of an apology) but anything more simply isn't worth the consequences or the subsequent tension.

Ok so here it is - come back from the gym earlier on today and thought to myself "hey lets get a protein shake in the body", went to the fridge and the 2pints or so of milk i left has vanished. As you could probably guess this displeases me. In the past week or so i've also had some food mysteriously disappearing too and i'm pretty sure i know who it is.

So do i a) confront this person b) do something nasty to the food/milk and laugh when this person uses it or c) break some legs?

Do all three mate. They wont do it again then! ;)

If people steal food from your fridge the only answer is to get a mini fridge for your room. Or only buy food which isn't so easy to steal.

No other options unfortunately. Confronting/threatening them is likely to do nothing, as the kind of person who would do that clearly has absolutely no regard for you whatsoever.

I sympathise. I've lived with almost 20 students, and my current group are the the most inconsiderate ****'s I've ever had the misfortune to live with.

Roll on June.
