hey all and apologies if this becomes a long post. hopefully my questions and your advice will help other people anyway.

I've been a longtime lurker and was looking to build my first PC a few years back but then i moved home and other stuff took priority. Now im settled and have a spare room id really like to build myself a PC and ditch this crappy laptop im on. Ive never built one from scratch however i have upgraded components on my old desktops to keep them up to date so feel confident giving it a go now.

Now onto the interesting stuff.

The below build is what i am currently looking at. Ive been trying to keep it between £1000-£1200 max

Intel Core i5-6600K
Corsair H105 AIO cooler
Asus Z170-A motherboard
G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB DDR4-3000 Memory
Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB
Zotac GeForce GTX 970
NZXT H440 (White/Black)
EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W
Cablemod E-Series G2 & P2 Cable Kit - White

It will be an every day machine with regular gaming dependant on which games take my fancy at the time. At the moment i only have a 1080p monitor unfortunately.

I will also be trying my hand at overclocking for the first time. I know i could save money with the 6400 and overclocking but i thought the K might be a safer option because god forbid the non K chips overclocking were blocked by a firmware update id be gutted. Really i just want the process to be as simple as possible

so a couple of questions.

1. Can you recommend any coolers which match the h105 and are cheaper or are just better overall?

2. Is that a good choice of motherboard?

3.ram - ok?

4. should i be considering a 390 over the 970?

5. Is this a good case for a noob builder? i was originally looking at the NZXT 530 phantom but was put off by some of the reviews saying it was "plastic fantastic!"

6. Are they any other builds that i am overlooking if you feel this is unbalanced at all?

7. finally, thank you and be gentle!!

Thank you for getting back to me so fast lads. This forum is fantastic.

Actually really like the look of that luxe now you have pointed it out. I'll do some research and measuring to see how it would go on my desk.

I probably don't need 16gb but it was just one of those things As I can afford to grab it as part of the budget and thought it would save me grabbing it in the future.

I like also like the look of that air cooler you recommended stulid. Is it noob friendly fitting wise and will it cope with decent over locking?

In relation to the Haswell-e route, I honestly did consider it. For a couple of hundred quid more it would be future proofed with its extra cores. I was heading towards skylake purely as it was newer and from what I'd read it appears really easy to over clock. How difficult to overclock would a 5820k be?

Would you mind posting a decent motherboard for this chip for me to consider? Again I'd like it to be noob friendly so plenty of fan headers and connections to make my life easier would be helpful

Ok mate that's much appreciated.

I'm going to go back to the drawing board with my options and see what I can pull together.

I'll be back when I get stuck again
