:D Have finally got round to placing my order for some new toys and they should be with me tomorrow ready for playtime. However, this build will be a first for me in several ways - 1st Intel build (have done 3 AMD systems before) and first effort with vista.

System comprises of : Q6600 - Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R - GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) - Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7191S 20x DVD±RW SATA - Samsung SpinPoint S 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (HD250HJ) - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit Edition DVD - OEM - 1Pk (66I-00715)

The system will also contain, for the time being, a pair of maxtor 250gb IDE HDD as storage buckets.

Any pearls of wisdom for the initial build?, and bearing in mind that i've never oc'ed a chip and would like to keep the cooling as stock etc, will this cpu take a litttle bump up to say 2.8ghz without problems and if so, how?

Thanks, happy new year! :D

would firstly have a read of this

Then go and have a play with your motherboard.. if you have any questions people are sure to help in the overclocking part of the forum

Welcome to the forums, looks like a good system but two questions. Why 32bit Vista? I'm not an expert on the OS but one of the primary reasons I'd go with Vista at all is that 64bit supports 4gb+ Ram. Secondly, do you have a graphics card already? I can't see one listed and that motherboard doesn't have onboard graphics capabilities.

Why not 64bit? - because I chickened out 20 seconds before pushing the button on the order and went for 32bit for now. Remember, this is my first contact with vista and I'd rather not make things any more complicated than needed. As to graphics card, there is an old 7600 floating around here somewhere that will suffice - I'm not a gamer, more general use and Photoshop/Nikon Capture work so again, it was a component that can wait for now - I tend to be one of natures late adopters usually so end up buying into technologies just as they are being replaced :)
