Hi
I was thinking of giving a GTX780 ago but which one. I like the Evga ACX one
but its £80 more than a reference one. Is it worth getting the higher clocked cards or not?

Any advice you guys could give me would be great appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi, if you were to go SLI in the future I'd go for a reference card, if your only planning on the one then the ACX would be nice.

In terms of clock speeds, the reference cards can do 1150-1200 without excessive noise and offer a more favourable price.

As above - the GTX780s all seem to be clocking extremely well. I would go for the reference card and save the extra cash.

in uk prices are incredible

just bought evga acx 780 for 659 Washington it only cost 10 dollar more

in uk it costs more than 950 its just insane

300 dollar more

its your fault guys for paying

u can dew a cow as long as u can

Yes from now on I intend to turn to crime and will steal all future graphics cards.

I could not understand the rest of your post.

Ok so save some cash and get a reference one is the way to go then.

Thanks will order one MSI GeForce GTX 780 PCI-Express 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card tomorrow.

I've got a 780 and can say you're making the best choice. No sense in paying for a pre-clocked card as it's just a ref card the vendor overclocked themselves.

Remember we have 20% VAT here. This isn't something we really have any option to pay - no UK Government is going to make computer hardware exempt from VAT (unless it's bought for business use of course).

The RRP for the GTX780 is $649, which works out at £512 including VAT. The cards can already be found for this price in the UK.

The "superclocked" cards do seem to have a higher premium in Europe, but that's about all. Very few people are buying them, due to the way the stock 780s clock anyway.

you really thing oc.uk is buying from amazon and adding vat?

no guys they are buying it direct bulk and they not paying 659 they pay much less

but than cow has milk and patron knows that they will dew him

if u want to believe that it cost 659 + vat for shops like oc.uk than forgive me for arguing with you

p.s

mumpy

buy the cheapest one they are all same

You're a very strange person.

edit, that sounds mean. I meant you have a strange way of writing. Is English not your first language?

+1

If anyone wants the best performance possible, buy a ref GTX 780 and put a waterblock on it.

Not exactly sure what you're blathering about

You think that retailers in the UK should be making zero margin or something?

Both the US and UK suppliers buy in bulk. Both add on a similar margin to cover their expenses and make a small profit. This results in similar prices ($649 vs £430). On top of this the UK retailer must add on 20% VAT, by law, resulting in the prices that we see (~£520). The UK retailer does not profit from VAT - the UK Government does.

It really isn't rocket science (or even dairy farming).

Just one quick question, would you be able to overclock more because you
are starting from 967mhz with the Evga ACX and not 863mhz?

Thanks again guys for the help.

Unlikely...

It's possible that EVGA "cherry pick" the best GPUs for their superclocked cards, in which case you have a somewhat better chance of getting good overclocks. But, the "superclocked" speeds are well within what all GTX780s seem capable of doing, so virtually all chips that they test would meet the required standard.

Certainly the difference, if there is one at all, would be nowhere near the extra 100Mhz at stock. The superclocked cards are really for those that don't intend to overclock at all, or who want the different cooler. For me, I prefer the standard "exhaust" design which dumps the heat directly out of the case, rather than recycling it around the case. The stock cooler is very efficient anyway.

Being factory OC'd typicaly the vendor has eaten into the available overclocking overhead for you.
I personally would be suprised if there was much more Ghz to be had than a reference item as the voltage control is very limited, but I'll happily be proven wrong.
