Hi,

I currently have a Dell Inspiron 9100 notebook which has the following specs

P4 3.2GHZ, 2GB PC3200, 120GB HDD, 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon, all the usual gubbins wireless NIC etc....

I'm looking to upgrade in the near future to a desktop based machine.. (am in my own place now and have the space!) I'm a Civil Engineer who has use of a monster cad workstation in work, but i do the odd foreigner at home if you get my drift....My budget is £800ish... which has to include everything...

As I've been with Dell for the past couple of years, I'm looking at a Dimension 9200 with a C2D E6300 (1.86), 2GB DDR2 667 and 2*250GB HDD in S-ATA Raid 0. The graphics card that comes with the system is an MADATI( :p ) X1300 Pro PCI-E card (256mb version)...

My question is will I see any improvement in speed etc.. I understand that my current laptop is quite old, however it was the 'mutts nuts' when I bought it, and still runs AutoCad 2007, Microstation and MX with ease...and runs vista no problems..

Any recommendations?

Should I opt for the E6400/6600/6700 or make do with the 6300 and upgrade the chip at a later date...

Should I opt for a later graphics card or make do with the stock one....

Anyway.. I didnt want this to be a 'spec me a rig' thread - but any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated... as a relative noob to the new hardware, I'd appreciate the advice.. as you can see the last machine I bought was a while ago!

thanks y'all

Tom
