I am currentley running an ABIT IN932X-MAX Mboard with a Intel 775 6850Extreme Quad core CPU. 2 BFG 8800GTX Watercooled extreme GPU's, 2x 2gb OCZ PC2-6400C5 Vista Gold Series memory,Coolermaster 1000watt PSU, Triple Rad for GPUs and Single Rad for CPU with Laing Pumps and XSPC clear tops. I am running on XP.

Now my question is , i want to consider going onto vista and am considering the striker 2 extreme with ddr3 2000mhz ram. This is to try and get vista running in sli with no problems and use dx10 rather than 9 on XP. Would i see any major mains by doing this and changing to Vista or is my setup ok as is? Im not to sure on the current motherboard you see. And would like to see if the 790 chipset is a lot better than the 680? Thanks for any help.

Personally I wouldnt bother with going DDR3, its so much more exensive than DDR2, if you want a small upgrade go for a higher end DDR2 m/b, Id say if youre going to fork out for a high end DDR3 m/b and DDR3 you may as well go for an i7 rig

what would you say would be a better and stable board to run in sli above the one i have? what ram would be better also and would vista be any problems for the likes of crysis still doing this?

Id just go for the striker formula personally if you were going to upgrade but I dont really see the point, hold off a while and when you next upgrade go i7
If you did you could get some PC8500 (upto 8gig - prices are cheap and as you were going to fork out for DDR3) which is faster than your RAM youve got at moment, and no vista shouldnt give you any problems

So is the formula quite a bit better than this board then? Obviously the ram will make a good bit of difference as im limited to 800mhz. I dont want to go i7 due to the cpu i have , i only got it 10 months ago and cost quite a bit also its a top spec cpu. Could you tell me the best way to check out my ststem performance ie benchmarking and how to get a program to do it? cheers .

It might be worth considering moving to w7 beta rather than Vista, as it's about as stable as vista, everything that works on vista should work on 7 (bar a couple of things that got scared when they didn't recognise the OS) and it's smoother and faster than Vista. Also has DX11 :p
Just something to think about.

It's also not available legally to anyone other than MSDN subscribers I don't think? :p

I'd stick with a DDR2 based system until you're ready to go for a full upgrade with an i7 based rig and do CPU/mobo/RAM.

I'm not convinced, it definitely says in the EULA I can use it for 30 days without registering it but may need to reinstall it after that time has passed! Surely how I acquired it is of no concern to MS unless I start pirating keys around, they're what you pay for anyway :p
