Spec advice, might return to Intel.

Some numpty who will remain nameless has offerd me £325 cash for my Athlon 4800+, Asus32sli mobo & G.Skill 2Gb ZX 2-3-2-5 memory. My eye's lit up at this offer; as i could upgrade and switch back to Intel for the 1st time since 2001. So was thinking Core 2 Duo E6600 CPU, 2Gb good quality memory or even 4Gb for Vista very tempting (not sure i'd be able to stretch on £300'ish budget) and ofc i intend to overclock. Have some idea's but can anyone suggest a nice Core 2 Duo build for say £300 by replacing the parts sold?

-SB Audigy 2 ZS
-Scythe Infinity (will fit via attachments, so no need to replace)

I'l second that one, the G. Skill PC6400 is a very good oc'er and its the same price as the PC5300.

Would go for that over Keeny's spec because of the higher multiplyer on the CPU and the newer chipset on the mobo.

i use an asus p5b, 2 gig of geil (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-058-GL) with the E6600, id recommend the processor n ram but the motherboards onboard sound is total naff
but the geil at the price it is is a total steal! i got it back in the day wen it was like 120

People are having problems with that ram and Asus boards. Just giving you a heads up before we have yet another thread slagging off this ram. It's an Asus problem. The ram is actually very good.

I'd recommend a new cooler. One of the 2 following specs would be fantastic:

Which one you opt for would depend entirely on what you place most value on. The E6320 spec has the better RAM and should clock to a similar level to the E6420 spec.

I'd second that one, purly for the RAM oc. 6320 can do very similar clocks to a 6420

Dont need a new cooler, infinity with two scythe fans attached (yep i managed to source 2nd set of clips ) works a treat and in tests ive seen with two fan its gets dam close to the Noctua cooling.

Nothing less than the two i listed above, motherboard is where im lost now tbh, and no i dont want a new cooler. Still, any advice welcome as always.

Exactly my point tbh, i'm not forking out for another cooler when i have a decent one in the Infinity which fits the intel boards, and money better off spent on cpu.
