Hi guys I have a 65 inch B6 coming in a couple of weeks but have hit a bit of a snag - currently I run all the components to my old Samsung plasma through a Samsung all in one home cinema unit, the problem is the thing doesn’t have ARC so I’m out of luck just keeping it as a stop gap.

Now I realise this system is ****, but the big problem is as I rent in London there is no way in hell I can get away with running speaker cables to rear speakers or spending a lot of time putting in a setup if i'm only going to rip it out again in 6 months.

The obvious solution would have been to get a SONOS play bar and sub as I have 2 spare play 1s to use as rear speakers but that system seems to be an utter cluster **** on their end in terms of mating with modern kit.

Now I am moving onto the glorious world of HDR and 4K I need something that can either handle the pass through of the new HDMI/HDCP standards or does 5.1 well enough over ARC?

Budget of 1k only needs to sound moderately good, wireless rears are the key issue.

Or would I be better off just ditching any Home Cinema pretentions and getting a soundbar?

Having done some digging on that (and several hours of hair pulling on the SONOS playbar) sound bars running over ARC seem to drop anything other than stereo for non Dolby outputs.

Are there any that will not **** up the HDR/4K pass through of sources so I can have the sound going in direct?

Did some poking around at it looks like other than a Visio unit only the Samsung HW-K950 supports HDMI 2.0a (HDR) passthrough - going to wait for the price to come down below 1k then jump on that unless someone has some horror stories!

I just bought a sony BDVN7200WB it has a some what wireless rear speakers system. by that it comes with a rear resiever that is wirelress you then plug in the rear speaker cables into that.

Sound wise it is the best all in one soloution i have ownedand i have owned quite a few.. its no replacement for a seperates system though my oppion is its one step below.
but perhaps an option for you also

Its really not much of a big deal to hide smaller speaker cable like QED micro between the carpet and skirting board or even just in some sticky back D line tricking.

I'm in the same situation and I use a Denon 2113 with a pair of Cambridge Audio Aero 6 floorstanders. There's no need to run wires around the room, the bass doesn't annoy the neighbours and it sounds very good. I had a full 5.1 system (Wharfedale 9) and ditched it because of the inconvenience.

If you can't/won't run wires then 5.1 is out of the question as even wireless speakers have wires for power....

I'd do as suggested above. Something like Monitor Audio Bronze 5/6 paired with a low end Denon like the x2300w will be perfectly adequate.

I can have power cables running along the back wall (it's a large space!) it's just an arse to run speaker cables to the rears as it's both a listed property with special conservation status, everything is exposed wood and brickwork - and the landlady is a psycho!

So don't want to go to the trouble and expense of fitting wires tidely only to have to rip it all out!

Have been impressed with a demo I had of the Samsung K950 (it sounded better than my high end KEF THX 5.1 system I had when I last owned a property - the ATMOS effects are very well done)

That said the thing - like all the new wave of HDR, Dolby Vision etc. devices is plagued by software faults. (Xbox one s sort it out!!)

It's also going for about £750 in the states, the current UK pricing at £1300 is a ****take especially for something that has a chance of being duff.

I am betting on the xbox one s being able to convert DTS X etc. into atmos with the bitstream update coming in Jan - hopefully everything will come together in pricing by then!
