I am looking for a new monitor for mainly computer programming (plus maybe the occasional watching of DVDs). I currently have a 19'' Dell 1280x1024 and need more real estate.

Looking to spend no more than £150, which seems exclude the often recommended Dell 2209WA.

I have done a quick search and was thinking along the lines of a Dell S2209W (22'', 1920x1080, £145 delivered).

Or for a similar price there is the BenQ G2410HD (24'', 1920x1080).

Does anybody have better recommendations?

Thanks

Its outside your price I know... but for computer programming this one is well worth the extra:

I can have 2x code pages side by side at 100% or 4 with a generous amount of text in each pane showing making it soo much easier to work with multiple sources files especially if I referring to and copying and pasting between different files.

Ended up with 2 of them so I can work in the level editor, image editor, etc. as well at the same time.

I'd say definately get 1080p, I got a 1680x1050 and it's simply not big enough for web design. (If you want to have the code and output next to each other on the screen and only have one monitor).

I'm getting another 22" now though. :P

Hmm, that is pretty tempting

Does this also turn 90degrees into portrait mode? Did your drivers work for this? Read some reviews of problems with that.

Will I need some special graphics card to run at that high a resolution. I currently have an old AGP FX5200.

For DVI output at that res you do need a newer card I think, but the 5200 can do that res on VGA I think.

The display rotates to portrait mode pretty easy and is supported in the nVidia drivers on my 8 and 200 series cards - tho its not something I use much myself.
