Hi All

After a few suggestions for things that might have caused my pc to die.

Spec in Sig, overclock is orthos stable (has used at this oc for 3 weeks now) and the RAM is fine (checked again with memtest last night). I have just checked the hard drive with the WD diagnostic program thingy and thats fine too.

Problem is that I can't get into windows, even safe mode doesn't work, It almost booted but then I think I got a quick flash of BSOD, was to quick to catch what it said. I'm sure I could just re install windows (though I have not tried yet) however if I do that it could just die again.

Any suggestions on things that may have caused this? I have tried reverting to stock clock and ram speeds and this makes no difference.

Many thanks.

Most likely your overclock wasn't stable and it has corrupted your registry hives. Or you possibly buggered up some critical driver when tweaking.

Outside of virii Windows doesn't 'just break' unless a) hardware failure, b)a driver gets messed up.

Boot a Linux LiveCD or install Windows on a spare HD and rescue your data. Then re-install.

I have knacked a windows install before thorugh overclocking, but it happened pretty much straight away, seems odd that its taken 3 weeks to cause me any bother.

Theres only my email on the C drive that I'm bothered about so I will just copy that off on my other pc.

The overclock was Orthos stable so I'm unsure as to wether or not to leave it at 4ghz or not? Temps are fairly low (idles mid 40's).

Might try fiddling with the sticks, which colour slot on the P5KC is the best to be using or does it not matter? Used to make a difference with the old N-Force boards.

Cheers all

Well, 14 hours of memtest and all is well, tried to boot into safe mode and it failed. Ran the WD drive test again and it failed instantly! At least I know what it is now. Quite impressed with the Advanced product replacement service they offer. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Cheers
