Advice needed as to Upgrading or replacing

The core of my current system is as follows:

Asus P7P55D-E LX
Core i5 2.4ghz processor
Sapphire 5850 1gb
4gb Corsair XMS 1600
Antec 300 case
Corsair 650w psu
Benq G2420HDBL

Now unfortunately something happened to the gfx card the other day during a Diablo 3 session when the display turned pure white. After a cooling period when I rebooted it has left 2 vertical 'strips' that are distorted. This prompted me to consider whether replacing the gfx card alone is worthwhile.

So should I bother upgrading around the bare bones I have or just buy a new system? I mostly play MMO's but also Skyrim, ME3, Diablo etc. My budget could be up to c£1000 but if I wait 6-12 months it'll be half that at best. I like having a decent machine and this one was feeling a little behind in Skyrim.

That problem you had defiantly sounds like a GPU problem. If you were to replace that on it's own i d suggest something like a 7850. You'd need to make sure you overclock the CPU though to ensure no bottle necking.

You budget could get you a really good rig, as you have a lot of decent components already.

What HDD's/SSD's do you have?

Maybe something like this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 670 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (02G-P4-2670-KR) £299.99
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £179.99
1 x MSI Z77A-G45 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £104.99
1 x Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (CT128M4SSD2) £89.99
1 x Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103SJ / ST1000DM005) £65.99
1 x GeIL Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GD38GB1600C11DC) £39.95
1 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler (Socket LGA2011/1366/1155/1156/775/ AMD AM3/AM3+/AM2/AM2+/FM1) £29.99
Total : £822.88 (includes shipping : £10.00).

Depending on what HDD's/SSD's you have.

Also space for a new case in that budget.

Thanks for your reply! The HDD is a Seagate 500gb 7200rpm drive.

I can o/c quite easily to 3.2ghz and have just done so, but after dropping my monitor during a move over the weekend i now need to replace that too! So, is it possible to run something like the Samsung S27a750D 27" with my current rig but replacing the GFX card and upping the ram to 8GB? Or should i really just rebuild and cannibalise certain parts, if so which ones?

Once again thanks for the advice, i do appreciate it as although i have built many systems in the past now that i'm 'old' I don't have the time to keep up to date with stuff!
