Hi all,

So my Radeon Vega64 died. Part of me is sad as it was a pretty okay card but it caused my some problems with the HBM memory. Anyway I need a new one and I have been looking at the dire stock situation for the RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3070

Would you suggest any other cards? 3070 is maxing my budget and the 3060 Ti is nowhere to be seen since 14:04. I think personally im better waiting, do you have any experience on how long it would take to come back in stock. I am torn between just getting a 2060 so I can play games over xmas or just wait.

Also not indulging scalpers on ebay.

Thanks for any help.

A 3070 is pretty close to an RTX 2080Ti - You could try looking at people selling 2070 Supers etc as a replacement for now until stock eases up.

The recent news and info from Nvidia is that they expect Q4 demand to completely outstrip supply. Samsung is not just producing for Nvidia alone and the capacity to increase production for one client or another is not as simple as just making more faster.

Getting a 2 series card is ideal as there is no stock queues for them. The 3 series is still popular enough that people are still joining queues and pre ordering.

That way you can see how things go. There will always be a certain make or model performs poorly than others.
I reckon at the moment you are looking into January and February before a UK retailer has 3 series cards just sitting in stores waiting to sell and dispatch.

I ordered 29th October on release an ASUS 3070 and was in queue position 535.
I am now at 312th after a month.

Thanks all, Yeah I might do that, I need a card with 2 display ports for 2 4k monitors though. I would be happy to get something like a 2060, most graphics-intensive game I play is CoD: BOCW and that ran fine on the Vega64.

Unfortunately, all the 2060s are no stock and the 2060 Ti is like £1.5k. I feel I may just have to wait a few months..

Is this purely because of scalper groups? I never known graphics cards to be so scarce like this, even when Bitcoin mining was at GPU difficulty.

So buying a graphics card currently was much harder than I ever noticed in the past. But luckily managed to get a 3070 (I wanted a 3060Ti tbh) from a local store (not mentioning the name) They have 1 coming tomorrow and said they would reserve and text me if I paid now, I trust them bought stuff of them before.

So the card I got was ASUS TUF-RTX3070-O8G-GAMING. Is this one of the good 3070 range ones? Clock speed 1815/1845 OC. I never understood the different makes like Inno3D, ASUS, MSI but I know people swear by certain vendors.

How much did you pay for it?

Way more than I wanted to, I know it was a bit of a rip off. £640. But having no GFX card and not knowing when I can get one, It was worth it to me. Should do me for a couple/maybe 3 years I hope.

Don’t beat yourself up mate...look at it this way, it’s 2080ti performance for £640 and you have a card over Christmas and your set for Cyberpunk...:D

I see price hikes across the board so paying slightly more now is the poker game everyone has to play...Congrats...:)

Having promised my son my 2070 (he wants it now!) and not impressed with the current situation I looked at buying something to tide me over but the prices for old stuff is crazy, I could probably get £300-£400 for my 2070 but a promise is a promise. So I got lucky during the week and picked up a 6800 MBA card on here. I saw the rrp was $579 so at £599 once taxes are added I thought I could live with that. The sense of relief I felt was unbelievable even though I had pretty much decided to wait till next year and not pay scalpers prices. So yeh I would say its difficult right now to buy either a standby card or worse, a new one. You could see the delight on the forums the other night from folks who got 6800 or 3600TI and of course the disappointment from those who didn't.

Prices are also likely to rise next year too, rather than come back down again. The manufacturers will see to that, as they have done reliably for the past three years.

You were one of the lucky ones as well mate. Out of stock @ 8.09pm and my order went through at 8.08pm. Very lucky I was on the forum and someone posted 6800's back on, I am very slow in the ordering process and had trouble with the CAPTCHA, but got lucky.

Oh absolutely, I couldn't have been luckier. I was home from work and looking at my phone at just the right moment. I could very easily have missed it for any number of reasons, and have done so before.

I would have preferred to pay MSRP, but in the current climate not many folks will be able to do that, so I count my blessings. :)

But the msrp is $579 for the 6800MBA, by the time you add vat etc £599.99 is about right.
In fact the vat was exactly £100.

According to the latest exchange rates, $579 is just over £430. VAT would take that up to £516. Even if you deduct VAT from the current price, it comes to $670, and if you account for VAT then it gets worse, at $805!

So I'm not sure what's going on with the conversion, but something's a bit off surely?

Ok, so on 3rd Dec 20 $1= 0.79482p
msrp= $579 X 0.79482 = £460 +vat =£552 So £47 to account for! I thought retailers with MBA cards were obliged to sell at MSRP or am I mistaken. There may be other costs to add, I'm not in business. £599 may be reasonable with free postage.
