Advice needed for graphics card for older games

I need an fairly inexpensive graphics card to play older games (BF2, GRID, DIRT2, Fuel of War, STALKER, etc) at 1680x1050 at reasonable quality, I was thinking of an HD 6870 (like the one on offer), any advice if this is appropriate (under or over kill ?)

System: Phenom II 560 BE @ 4x3.5Ghz, 8Gb 1333Mhz, Asus M4A89GTD, 650W PSU, Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
