Thinking of changing the psu for another(better)one.
Current setup is:
Abit KN9 Ultra
CPU = AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2.6GHz overclocked to 2.8GHz.
Overclocking settings:
CPU Ext clock = 216
Multi = 13
Cpu volts =1.35
HT = X4
Ram volts = 2.2

Ram = Crucial Ballistix 2Gb kit at 4-4-4-12 2T(401MHz x 2)
Two DVD-RW drives
Three Western Digital SATA hard drives( 2 x 400Gb, 1 x 160Gb).
Nvidia 7300GT (512)(not into games).
SoundBlaster X-Fi Platinum(with front panel).

Antec P180 case with original fans.
Antec NeoHE 500 psu( 1 year old)
So that leads me on to what psu to get.
Thinking of either a 550W or 600 - 620W.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what brand and power ?
Thanks.:confused:

What's wrong with the Antec you have? It should be more than enough for your rig. Personally i would'nt touch a Corsair HX520 at the moment after all the threads on here and elsewhere about them failing.

What threads? I haven't seen any at all.

All ways the same on here, a few threads pop up about a couple of units failing then everybody seem to think, they are all going to fail, WTF?

Seriously, the amount that corsair sell, their will be the odd one that fails, thats life.

I think ive seen one thread about a corsair going wrong, but it still works fine. However, ive seen a lot of threads where people have said avoid as they have seen a lot of threads on here saying they went pop. So storm-in-a-teacup.

You really need to pay more attention then:-

Corsairs own forum quite a few in there.

That's all i can be bothered to dig out. There have also been quite a few that have been DOA both on here and on other forums. I know they are made by Seasonic and that they make supposedly good quality psu's but there are quite a few failures/DOA there.

Dead on arrival or user error most of these people don't even know to plug the 4 pin in or even the pci express lead.Personally i think all of those psu were fine and they were just doing something wrong.Or it just doesn't work for what ever reason on their board.

Agreed. Nearly rma'ed a tagan as i didn't know that there was a 4pin connector for the mobo. I had done a few PC's before, but not for a few years, so i skipped a lot instructions and that was one of them!

Every time a product, especially a PSU, is highly recommend it seems to give problems- there is of course a reason for this. PSU probably more than any other component becomes a FOTM item. Once this happens the failure rate of course seems to go up as more and more are sold.

What you need to remember is that most people dont even know about ocuk's forums. never mind actually post in them. The only way to know for sure (About ANY RMA's etc) is to find out the percentage of actual failures to shipped items. It seems they are the most recommended PSU'd at the moment, and they were at the back end of last year when i bought mine too. I wonder how many OcUK have actually shipped of these, and how many were sent back for being faulty.

I think they have shipped a lot of these products, lots of etailers are always out of stock and it's always being reccomended so the failure rate could still be a small percentage.

But yeah, whats wrong with the NeoHE ? I may be interested if your selling it :P

If there's nothing wrong with your psu you have already, I would stick with that. No point in changing it really. I bet your system doesnt draw more than 250w max. You dont have a power hungry graphics card or cpu so stick with the antec.

or replace your antec and sell it to me as mine is failing miserably at the moment (unless you like high pitched whining or the crackling of fried copper :p

Exactly, this is what some people seem to forget about.

If you have a problem your going to post it on forums (Hence that's what forum's are their for).

I bet most of the people actually reporting a problem about something is down to them not the component actually being faulty.
