Hey guys and gals, i'm hoping someone can give me some help regarding MOTing a 98 Hornet with a micron can.

I've just picked it up today, and i must say its a great bike so far! but the one things thats worrying me is the micron can. It has 'not for road use' stamped across the back of it.

Is this due to the dB of it? If so, a popular auction site sells baffles, one company even custom makes them and is only 20 miles away from me. Would this be suitable to get it through? or will the stamp still make it fail?

I don't have access to the original can, i'm assuming its been MOT'd before with this can on but i cant be 100% certain (the previous owner never mentioned it, that may be lacking on my part for not asking.)

Thanks.

it will fail,he'll just see it stamped as not for road use and fail it unless hes a decent mot man

file the stamping off and polish it out

Yep, if it states 'not for road use' it will fail, end of story. But if you can file it off and leave no marks then that gets around that problem.

Then there's the noise, all depends on tester and whether they deem it's too loud, I believe there's no set limit and it's at 'testers discretion'.

Thanks guys, exactly what i was looking for :)

EDIT: another quick question, is the heat shield from the standard exhaust needed for the mot?

They used to be, but I am sure that was scrapped along with noise test a few years ago, all testers discretion I think now, I know my bike and plenty of others have passed the last few years with no BSAU stamp

You can also buy the legal plate so that you can keep them in your bedroom as an ornament. :D

My bike passed MOT with a can with no markings on at all and was a bit noisy. Got an advisory of noisy exhaust. Think it comes down to who is doing it at the time.
