So below is my current setup just in case you're curious what I'll be upgrading from

Windows 7 64b
Gigabyte H55M-UD2H
Intel Core i3 530 2.93GHz @ 4.00 GHz
Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 896MB
XFX EasyRail Pro 450W
4GB DDR 3 RAM

I'll be buying a bundle from OcUK and I'm mostly unsure of the differences of the two below;

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-159-OE&groupid=43&catid=2512&subcat=2513

It's essentially an i5 4670k vs an i7 4770k I believe; assuming there's no real practical difference between the motherboards in relation to my usage as the other specs are the same other than the cooler (also very minor difference I'm assuming)

So as for what I'll be using the system for is mostly just gaming, largely MMO's (Wildstar!) which are typically CPU heavy in what will be 40 man raiding with a lot of **** going on, which had me questioning whether the i7 was worth the price difference, as I've not found solid evidence either way.

Thus far it seems the general opinion though is that for gaming and the occasional game recording I'll be fine with the i5, it's certainly nicer on my wallet so don't want to go the i7 route unless we're talking running at a hypothetical 60 FPS in a raid situation with the i7 compared to running at 40 FPS with the i5

EDIT: Update

Have decided on:

MSI Radeon R9 280X Gaming Edition OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor
Seasonic G series 550w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply

For the remaining stuff I need to purchase (ram, mobo, air cooler) I'm unsure what to go with, all I know is I want ddr3 ram and sata3 port on the mobo :p

Okay so I decided to go the i5 route and grab that you mentioned, was advise it's great value for money and worth it when comparing i5 to i7 at the same time as 660 to 280X and keeping +- the same budget, so below would be my specs thus far (need advice on RAM/Mobo/Air cooler)

MSI Radeon R9 280X Gaming Edition OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Seems quite a common motherboard choice the one Fulax has in his two builds (thanks for those btw, helped with some other decisions) guess that's the one I should be getting? The Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z87 Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard

As for the PSU I'd like the one I posted already, found great reviews on it and like the fact that it's modular.

Also wondering, should I buy thermal paste or is what is already applied by default just fine?

As for my case, I have no idea. I'll take some photos and upload em soon!

Edit: Although, likely going for this motherboard, being the same chipset as the Sniper since it only has 1 less pci slot and less usb ports which I won't use anyway; http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-438-GI

So here's my case, it's quite old (8 years?) but wasn't cheap at the time however it was a gift and I have no idea what make/model/etc it is, if someone knows I'd be curious :)

Hopefully it's okay, as don't really want to replace it, even though the front is broken off! :p

That's an Artic Freezer 7 Pro I think it's called, I'm wanting a new cooler as that has two plastic pin thingies missing and isn't secure due to that + it's really old anyhow, also be replacing that PSU as 450w is pushing it for the card and have had problems with it in the past and yup the SSD is lazily placed as I intended to rebuild properly later, aka soon here ^^

So it would be that with the 280x which I already purchased, I wouldn't ever run crossfire so the motherboard is fine and plenty of USB ports for me. All in all solidly within my budget. Thoughts?
