Hi all you overclockers :),
First post but have been reading here for months.

I'm not really a hardware guy, I have never built a PC but have been playing with them for about 20 years (I'm 31). I'm a software tester so anything software related, I can learn, understand and get my head around (so I'll be looking into overclocking etc).

I've recently decided to build a Games PC with my April cheque, but having never done this before I've had to do a bit of research. I was looking for some feedback if you'd be so kind?

Excluding monitor, keyboard and mouse I've set myself a budget of about £700 and I have come up with this:

Case: HEC Compucase Cougar Army AF2 Gaming Case - I like the style
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z77-D3H
CPU: Intel i5 3570k @ 4.4GHz
RAM: 8GB Corsair DDR3

NO COMPETITORS - READ RULES

<- To be bought as a bundle
Cooling: Need advice as unexperienced as to what I will require

Graphics: MSI R7850-1GD5/OC ATI Radeon HD 7850 Graphics Card 1GB PCI Express 3.0 DVI HDMI 2x Mini Display Ports
(Maybe get a 2gb one??) or nvidia GTX 660 2gb

Sound card: Asus Xonar DG - possible issue with Gigabyte motherboards(?)

Power Supply Unit: OCZ OCZ600MXSP-UK ModXStream Pro 600W ATX Power Supply
SSD: SanDisk 128GB 2.5 inch Solid State Drive

How do I know which PSU and Cooling system I need/want? What are the factors involved?

If I could get some feedback on my design that would be great. I respect / look forward to your feedback :)

All the best

Loki

I appologise for that.

I though I had read the registration paragraph etc.

Please could you provide me with a link to the OC Forum Rules which state No competitors or Prices?

I want to make sure I don't break any other rules.

Thanks, - sorry again.

It would be best to get a 2GB graphics card. I have noticed games such as Battlefield 3 and Tomb Raider use around 1.6GB so 2GB will help a bit.

I used to have the sound card you mentioned and had no problems with my Gigabyte Z77x-D3H. If you do have problems, it's likely a BIOs update will sort it.

The 600W PSU can comfortably power that system :)

Thanks very much for that feedback, Smoogels.
You've made me a little more confident on the build now

I still need to decide on a cooler ;)

Not being critical but; a 1gb graphics card will just scrape through whats to come later this year, and struggles slightly with games that are out now, such as bf3 and arma3. In my opinion it's best to go with a 2gb, should last you a good 2years, atleast.
